General Motors told reporters on Tuesday that it has indefinitely suspended production of its self-driving Cruise Origin robotaxi, reports The New York Times. The company will refocus on using the Chevy Bolt EV, which Cruise has already been using. A modified version will go into production next year.

The Origin created “regulatory uncertainty” owing to its design, GM CEO Mary Barra said in her letter to shareholders today. It was to be purpose-built for self-driving, with no steering wheel or pedals, no clear front or rear, and no driver; but estimates put each vehicle’s cost in the hundreds of thousands. The company said in September of last year that it was “just days away” from regulators approving the Origin for mass production.

Ford saw a $1.1 billion loss in its EV business, dragging Q2 profit well below Wall Street forecast

“The remaking of Ford is not without its growing pains,” Ford Chief Executive Jim Farley said on a call with investors after the results. “We look forward to proving our EV strategy out. That has become more realistic and sharpened by the tough environment.”

Ford is “confident” it can reduce losses and sustain a profitable business in the future, he added. The car maker plans to focus on “very differentiated” EVs priced under $40,000 and $30,000, and on two segments, work and adventure, Farley said.

Larger EVs will be part of the picture, but success there will require more breakthroughs on costs, the CEO said, adding that Ford’s EV journey overall has been “humbling.”

The 2025 Cadillac Optiq is offered in two trim levels, namely Luxury and Sport. The Luxury trim will carry an MSRP of approximately $54,000. The exterior design features a black crystal grille, a fastback roofline, and a grooved rear quarter panel window utilizing Caddy’s “Mondrian” styling cues. Also prominent are the brand’s signature vertical lighting elements.

^ I think that might be a bit too small for many people, but I like the looks, and the price is good.

Toyota Will Replace 100,000 Faulty Engines in the Tundra and Lexus LX

A recall from May 2024 stated the engines could fail. The only fix is a new engine.

They really messed up. Toyota has fallen mightily since they tried to do away with V8s.

The South Pasadena Police Department, today, became the nation’s first law enforcement agency to completely replace its gasoline-powered vehicles with nonpolluting electric vehicles.

The city’s zero-emission police fleet of 20 new Teslas will rely on a bank of new electric vehicle chargers installed at South Pasadena City Hall. Additionally, upon completion of the final electrification project component, City Hall, the Police Station and the Fire Station buildings will be backed up by a solar powered system with battery storage adding critical power resilience in the event of an outage.

Here is a construction update of Tesla's Semi factory currently being built in Nevada. It'll produce 50,000 Semis per year when fully ramped. Production is supposed to start late 2025.
