I'm not sure if the RCMP would ever deal with squatters outside of a court order to do so, as they have no method of determining whether somebody is a legal resident, or a squatter?

I guess not in all cases though.

Police will summarily remove you from an Air BnB or a hotel suite, with no court order.   They will not do the same at a more conventional long-term residence.

I'm guessing nobody here has encountred such a situation.

This reminds me of a story that got out of hand quickly where Mrs. Bjornsen asked Mrs. Svensen “What’s a sample”?

Mrs. Svensen replied “Go pee in a bucket”. To which Mrs. Bjornsen shouted back “Go fart in a pillow”.

…..and the fight was on.

I think there is a lot we don’t know. It’s suspicious to me that it’s the time of the Covid Measures where it really started. Living there for a decade in peace and then it becomes a problem? Members of the community, paying taxis and the rent. Providing marine services etc. that they frame them as squatters is already suspect. Evictees is more accurate at least.

Not everything is because of COVID. Sometimes a good relationship turns bad, or new regulations emerge, that require you to change how you do one thing or another.

35 years ago we thought seatbelts were a government conspiracy.

It does seem a bit complex.

Loosen up your grip on the Covid pearls. They aren’t telling key parts of the story and the timing is suspect.
“Theriault went on to say that lease renewal paperwork fell behind during the pandemic when no one was in the office.”

So sounds like it’s related to me. Why else were they not at the office anymore?

Luke warm excuse, no? It’s been three years since we opened society back up.

Millions of leases have progressed just fine on the continent. Except this one?

I think maybe people can't figure out if somehow the residential tenancy rules apply here.

When they install the gates and locks do they intend to not give him a key, type thing?  Like one day he will find himself locked out (or in)?

The article says the dispute started then. He was doing fine, docking their against the law for many many years. Then after the period of great divide they want him out and he is now a squatter. IDK. My guess is he didn't wear a mask on the dock. But it is a harmless guess and no worse inuendo then calling this man a squatter.

Oak Bay Marine Group sold to Vancouver businessman

The sale means Craham Clarke now owns four Vancouver Island marinas, since the deal also includes North Saanich, Ladysmith and Pedder Bay marinas

New marina and fuel dock at Sooke resort

After nearly a year of construction, Prestige Oceanfront Resort in Sooke has opened its new marina and dock gas bar.

The marina can accommodate up to 12 boats, depending on size, and moorage spots are available for both complimentary short-term day use and paid overnight use.

The resort said the dock and gas bar are accessible to resort guests, as well as to the public and Sooke locals who are visiting the resort’s West Coast Grill restaurant, Vault Lounge, Island Tarts Café or Coastal Tides Day Spa.

The gas dock has mid-grade marine gas and dyed marine diesel.

Resort general manager Jacob Cramp said the completion of the dock allows fishing and whale-watching charters and tours to pick up guests and take them out on water excursions.

The dock has been designed to accommodate moorage for guests arriving by float plane, which Cramp says will be a huge draw to the region.

The gas dock, which will provide mid-grade marine gas and dyed marine diesel, will be staffed seven days a week for the summer. Current operating hours are Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., however, those hours may vary based on demand.
