Scott Stinson: It's a hotly contested NBA Eastern Conference Finals, and the big story is ... Drake?

Whatever the exact relationship between cultural superstar and team — employee? Partner? Superfan? — Drake is not just some hanger-on. He has the run of the place

Why everyone should chill out about Drake's courtside antics at Raptors games

It was the shoulder massage heard around the world.

I count myself in the camp who dislikes the antics of the Drakester.
It’s over the top in my estimation and I can imagine some of the players may wish the guy would just go away.
On a positive note, a win today leads to the final!

just replace - in your mind - drake with the courtside furry mascot.  no difference right?  drake gets more tv screen time.  that's on the tv truck producers not the raptors.

I agree, his mug does not need to fill the screen every time out.

No offence y’all, but it seems to me the Raptors target market (not 50+ y/o white dudes) loves Drake.

33 Cineplex theatres from coast-to-coast will host Raptors viewing parties to celebrate the team's historic entrance into the 2019 NBA Finals. Canadian fans are invited to unite and rally behind the Raptors as they face-off against the Golden State Warriors, live on the big screen, for an immersive experience you could only get courtside at the game.

Tickets to the first four games of the series will be available in-person at participating theatre box offices starting (yesterday)  – Wednesday, May 29, at 6:00pm local time. All Raptors viewing parties are free and limited to two tickets per person, per game.

he's wearing a dell curry #30 raptors jersey tonight.  dell curry is the father of current warriors superstar steph curry.

the tenors are doing the canadian anthem.  why can't drake do that?

I don't understand drakes accent. Did he just make it up? Is that what people in Toronto sound like?

Yes. Lots of people in Toronto sound like that. Toronto has a large population of immigrant families from the Caribbean.

Drake is wearing an old Dell Curry jersey for today’s game.

but neither drake nor his parents have caribbean roots.

he was in a wheelchair for years.   maybe that's a factor on his speech.

raptors lead by 10 at the half.

True. But do you get your accent, slang, and speech patterns from you parents? My parents both have British accents. I don’t. I’m no expert, but I bet you’re more influence by classmates and friends growing up when you form your accent.

Drake has been criticized because people have called his accent “fake Jamaican” but he’s repeatedly said that when starting his career he was always pressured to “Americanize”.

Fun game to watch. When things are going your way ... some of the shots that went in for Toronto were crazy and on any other day would have missed.
