Almost there. I wonder if site remediation will happen soon or only once the long-term future of these properties are decided?

My hunch as well... till they can buy the site next door from the Province...
You think 844 Johnson ever stops being low-barrier housing? Our Place is "celebrating" 50 years in business.

My hunch is this site will sit vacant for a while.
That will be a real tragedy for downtown. Homeless shelter and adjacent vacant lot.

Our Place is privately owned/funded... 844 Johnson may just collapse due to extremely high cost/risk, and the province may realize they can profit from selling the lot and relocate the current "clients" somewhere cheaper...

If the intention is to turn this site into a parking lot, even temporarily, it is going to require some work since all of the surface paving is being removed.

there could be fuel tanks in there

Probably, but it gives me a glimmer if hope this site may have a future of being more than asphalt.

I could see a "Juliet 2" (call it Romeo I suppose) working well here. And yes I know the urban legend that the Juliet got its name precisely because it was the former site of Romeo's restaurant. There's a whole host of Shakespearean names that would work. How about the "Cordelia", the "Regan" or the "Cressida"?

Very exciting news for the 800-block of Johnson. Between this and the Chard development, the block will be getting some much needed life injected into it, instead of the usual case of folks injecting on it.

If Council is true to their word, then they should be expediting the approval of this as a rental project.
Edit: Shovels in the ground by the end of 2017 is doable.

Hopefully whoever has the contract on this lot right now starts locking the blue fencing, and a higher fence along the 844 property line is in the plans for the building.
Over in that "I HEART DES" corner, lots of people are using the concrete ledge to hop the iron rod fence into the 844 property. Seen it a few times in the past week. And PHS staff wonder how people keep sneaking in...

...And PHS staff wonder how people keep sneaking in...
And residents at 844 wonder why they have to sign in visitors.
