Probably right there…. But we would have a better chance as a government of the people for the people. Look at who holds the top positions of our military and governments. That would change absolutely nothing of substance.

I am a lot more concerned about our level of productivity and lack of economic growth.

A reminder that any move to a republic (or any other form of federal government) by displacing the British Crown will result in court cases until the end of time: all of FN Treaties 1 - 11 with the exception of small portions of Treaty 8 in NW BC - every single one of them otherwise, signed between 1871 up to 1921- was negotiated and agreed to by FN with the Crown, not the government of Canada.
That means a new Canadian federal non-Crown governing entity would have to (re)-negotiate existing treaty stipulations with every FN in Canada beyond BC where none of the treaties save portions of Treaty 8 noted above, are in force. Which essentially would take decades and decades at the very minimum. Not to mention very likely costing untold billions of dollars, and not to mention which entity - FN or non-FN - would wind up with "title".
And remember FN in BC are already well down the path of taking the BC Government to court since transfer of land (title and traditional uses) precedent in this province was already established by the Tsilhqot'in agreement in 2014; that agreement was a landmark, the first case of the SC of Canada confirming aboriginal title to large portions of a FN ancestral land. At that it wasn't until 2016 the province and the Nation signed a further 5-year framework that would stipulate how that transition would play out, what was involved and a timeline to complete. All that time, effort and money for one small FN.
And just this week the FN's in the Tahsis-Gold River region filed a title claim to over 430,000 hectares for title and "ancestral land use rights" on NW Vancouver Island. The process at this time is unstoppable. Therefore any attempt to institute a new form of federal government will hit this speed bump full on.....
Ultimately there are 3100 FN reserves spread amongst 634 recognized First Nations Bands in Canada, which in turn represent more than 50 Indigenous languages. Good luck to any future form of non-Crown governance settling all with that in court before the turn of the next century, if even then.

Maybe it resolves these issues once and for all. As you noted the lawsuits are happening anyway. Let's become a country with them. For a government with them. They form a confederacy (Like the Iroquois already) Then we replace "The Crown" with "the Council" everywhere. It's just ceremonial anyway right?

Put 10 towers here.
They will sell well.
They will not be "affordable" but they can satify the raw numbers the province seeks.
I highrise near a golf course doesn't seem right.

International is legal only or both legal and illegal?
Looks like it includes both.
Net international migration, which refers to any change of residence across U.S. borders

Canada will not accept new parent and grandparent permanent residency sponsorship applications until further notice, according to a ministerial directive.
The directive published in the Canada Gazette states the government remains committed to family reunification but will focus on processing applications received last year.

Many of the 300,000 Ukrainians who have come to Canada on three-year emergency visas since 2022 face an uncertain future as their temporary resident permits come closer to expiring, the Ukrainian Canadian Congress warned Wednesday.
Congress executive director Ihor Michalchyshyn said he met with Immigration Minister Marc Miller last week to ask his department to automatically renew the visas for another three years.
"We have invited them to flee the war zone here. They're working here now. We think they deserve a clear extension of the invitation from Canada to not cause them problems with their employers, problems with their health care," he said.
But Michalchyshyn said Miller showed no sign of openness to the idea. The minister's office confirmed that a systematic renewal is not being considered.
Last Friday, the minister told reporters Ukrainians must apply for an extension to a working permit or a student visa in order to stay longer as temporary residents.
"I am not sending them back to Ukraine as long as the war continues. We renew work permits and permits to stay so there is nothing to fear, but you have to make an application," he said in French.

Mike says this is the place to post anything to do with population, Anyway interesting article in House Hunt Victoria which is obviously a Victoria real estate site, which has a good reputation, which deals with the new projected demographics which might impact the market. The numbers are interesting although it fails to mention the number of Canadians leaving the country (about 150k moving to the US alone.)
Like others opinions.

Growth is still high, so your point isn't really a factor, even if its true.

Ianford, the article seems to be behind a paywall? What does the article say about population growth for the next five years exactly?

Key points:
"Desjardins added that the Trudeau government often seems to make promises that it fails to fulfill, and that immigration reduction is a prime candidate for this."
and
"This influx of newcomers had the effect of keeping Canadian GDP relatively stable by sheer virtue of the fact that thousands of new consumers were being pumped into the economy every week."
As I postulate often here, 25% of our GDP is real estate related and you can't export real-estate. If it looks like they will lose the election they will take drastic measures to cut immigration as fast as possible. This is probably why they planned on it. Then Trump put major wind in their sails.
