West Shore RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Nancy Saggar told CTV News investigators believe the suspect was "under the influence of drugs" during the altercation.

Yes that’s not normal.

The Nanaimo RCMP is asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the two masked suspects shown in the attached photos. It is alleged that just before 6 AM on Tuesday April 25, 2023, these individuals broke into Cosmo Prof, a hair salon, located at 1925 Bowen Road.

Police responded to a report of a glass break alarm and upon arrival, found the front door to the business smashed out. Patrols of the area proved negative for any suspects. The owner of the business later verified that a number of high end hair clippers and shears were stolen. The next day several still photos taken from video surveillance were provided to investigators.

While both suspects were wearing masks, police are confident that they may be identified from the clothing that was worn. It should be noted that at least one of the suspects appears be a woman, said R/Cst Gary O’Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.

If anyone has information on this incident, please contact the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345.

Victoria man accused of leaving fish at 'Goonies' house charged

Jericho Wolf Labonte was charged with criminal mischief in the third degree. The offence is punishable by up to 30 days in jail and fines of $1,250 US.

labonte.jpg
A man, later identified as Jericho Wolf Labonte of Victoria, is taken off a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter in February after being rescued from the mouth of the Columbia River. He had fallen into rough seas when the stolen yacht that he was aboard was flipped by a huge wave.

A Victoria man who made headlines after being rescued from a stolen boat that was sinking off Oregon has been charged with a misdemeanour in connection with another incident.

KOMO News reports that Jericho Wolf Labonte was charged with criminal mischief in the third degree on Tuesday. He is accused of leaving a dead fish on the porch of a house in Astoria, Oregon, in February. The property, a landmark in the town, was featured in the 1980s film The Goonies.

At the time, Astoria Police Chief Stacy Kelly said a video posted online showed a man as he put the fish on the porch, covered the security cameras with stickers, then danced around the property and the property next door, “just acting really odd.”

Two days after the fish incident, Labonte was rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard off the coast of Oregon.

Authorities received a mayday call from a yacht floundering in the surf. As rescue crews neared the vessel, it was struck by a 10-metre wave, causing the boat to roll over and throwing Labonte into the rough water.

Labonte is being tried separately for the boat incident. He has been charged with first-degree theft, second-degree criminal mischief, unauthorized use of a vehicle and reckless endangering of another person in connection with that incident, KOMO reported.

The Oregon incidents came less than a month after Victoria police issued a public alert for Labonte, who was wanted B.C.-wide on charges of criminal harassment, mischief and three breaches.

A spokesperson with the Astoria Police Department told CHEK News that Labonte is now in the custody of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency.

Did this guy complete the survey?

Officers have arrested a man who has been the subject of numerous calls for service in a break and enter this morning at a Vic West residential complex.

Officers were called to the offices of a residential development in the 0-block of Saghalie Road in Vic West at approximately 5:15 this morning after security called police to report a break and enter.

Attending officers spotted the suspect when they first arrived, who then fled deeper into the building complex.

Multiple Patrol officers and an officer with the Integrated Canine Service (ICS K9) attended and searched the building. As officers searched the building, the suspect allegedly set off the fire alarm, resulting in attendance by the Victoria Fire Department.

Officers located the suspect and took him into custody. Several items believed to be stolen were located by officers during their search, which also revealed damage to doors and windows.

The suspect, who is a relatively new arrival to Victoria, has had 44 police contacts and a dozen arrests so far this year. He faces outstanding charges for multiple break and enters, as well as car theft, uttering threats, indecent exposure, and sexual assault.

The suspect was transported to VicPD cells where he was held for court.

This incident remains under investigation. If you have information about this incident and have yet to speak with an officer, please call the VicPD Report Desk at (250) 995-7654 extension 1.

VicPD file # brings up Lance Peter VORBERG, born 1966. Google indicates originally from Ontario, time spent in Florida (with arrests down there for felony battery/aggravated assault) and Assault/Utter Threats out of Powell River last year. Wonder what brought him to town...

Imagine if every Greater Victoria resident had this level of police contact. We’d collectively have over 17 million police contacts. Or about 25,000 contacts per local police officer.

This guy has had 44 police contacts in less that 100 days.

^ why is he continually let out of custody if it is alleged that he commits other crimes while awaiting trial?

Appointed bleeding heart judges that lack basic common sense and have a low sense of self decency?

I might as well stop following the law so closely myself.

HIGH PROFILE CASE

Fatal Maffeo Sutton Park stabbing case proceeds to Supreme Court trial

May 9, 2023

NANAIMO — An apparent random late night fatal stabbing on Nanaimo’s waterfront last Labour Day weekend will be heard in a future BC Supreme Court trial.

The accused, Mark Jayden Harrison and Aiden Matthew William Bell, are both charged with manslaughter in connection to the death of 29-year-old Fred Parsons on Sept. 5, 2022 at Maffeo Sutton Park’s playground.

Following a full day-long preliminary inquiry on Monday, May 8 in provincial court in Nanaimo the case was officially advanced to the high court.

Both of the accused attended the hearing in-person, while family and friends of the deceased were also in the gallery.

Screenshot 2023-05-09 20.39.35.png
Aiden Bell leaves court during a break in Monday’s preliminary inquiry.

The case will be on the Supreme Court list on Monday, May 29 however it’s unclear when a trial will be heard.

Harrison and Bell are represented by separate lawyers.

At the time, Nanaimo RCMP stated a small group of people were approached by a group of young people where a confrontation broke out late on the evening of Sept. 5, 2022. Police said bear spray was unleashed toward Parsons’ group.

Following the incident which saw Parsons stabbed, he was transported to Nanaimo hospital where he was declared deceased.

Parsons had developmental disabilities, as did his two friends with him at the park.

Harrison was originally charged with second degree murder, while Bell was charged with a pair of weapons offences.

He has a long youth record dating back to 2019 with five convictions for crimes of violence and 15 breaches of court orders. (He) has been in custody at the Vancouver Island Regional Correctional Centre in Saanich.

Bell, who was previously granted bail, has no criminal record.
