Probably unrelated (yeah sure!), but the 400 block is Cecilia Ravine, currently the site of one of the larger tent cities in town.

Further to the Burnside/Gorge standoff, this was reported by CHEK News:

"Tonight hear from the man who had his Burnside Gorge home broken into overnight. 4-hour standoff. Bed lit on fire. Place trashed. Intruder even put on his GF's clothes and told police she lived there."

^ I can not even pronounce those names. Does that make me a racist?

Familiarizing yourself with the Romanian language would be very educational. It's descended from the "blue collar" Latin spoken by natives toward the end of the Roman era.

^ That’s the first time I’ve seen that rather nasty looking black Suburban with the “bite me” plow on the front.

That’s got....lead...follow...or get out of the way...written all over it.

Iain Rose looks through the aftermath of an equally terrifying and unusual situation.

“We didn’t know what to do,” said the home’s renter.

On Thursday night a woman broke into the house right after she tried to steal a car from the car dealership next door.

But the intruder didn’t just use the house for hiding.

“She did really random things,” said Rose’s partner Kristen Jensen. “Every random piece of clothing she tried on, every shoe she tried on, including shaving her legs and putting on my hair extensions.”

And it gets even more strange.

Jensen says the woman packed random items including candles, tv remotes, cups, and clothing, into Jensen’s own bags.

The couple believes the woman made more than 30 trips up and down the stairs, rearranging their furniture and putting on Jansen’s makeup.

Jensen’s sister and neighbour, Alissa Jensen, was one of the first to see the woman in the bedroom through the basement window.

“I told her to get out and she looked dead at me and said, ‘no,’” recalled Alissa. “That was the point that we had just, or decided to, call the cops.”

Police arrived just after 10 p.m. and spent nearly four hours negotiating with the woman eventually bringing in the Emergency Response Team.

“They could have taken on the A-Team, there was so many cops there,” said Rose. “There was like 30 of them with their weapons and dogs and everything.”

Police broke the bedroom window, throwing in a distraction smoke and flash device that set the bed on fire.

The woman was then taken into custody, but that was just the start of the couple’s problems.

Although the couple has renters insurance, they say the insurance company has denied them almost any support.

“They’re basically telling us that unless something’s been removed or burned to a crisp, or vaporized, they’re not going to help us,” said Rose.

Iain’s three children have had to live elsewhere, as traces of various drugs were left all throughout the house, and now they’re left with a major mess.

But there is some silver lining – unexpected help from VicPD.

“When they heard BCAA insurance were messing around and not going to help us, they were going to step up and cover the damage and the ruined items,” said Rose.

VicPD is also paying for a cleanup crew to come in on Monday to make sure all the drugs the suspect left behind are gone.

The couple says they are grateful for the help from VicPD.

“They didn’t need to help legally,” said Rose “They’re here as a service and they’re here to help.”

If we defund the police, what happens to the cleanup crew?

A social worker arrives instead and reasons with the mess left behind, in a calm, mannered tone of voice. Eventually the mess sees the error of its ways and leaves, and everyone is left with a warm feeling inside.

Via CFAX1070, the operator of Victoria Carriage Tours says an employee of the carriage company was pushed down to the ground and robbed yesterday evening just steps from the entrance to the British Columbia Legislature.

Speaking to CFAX 1070's Adam Stirling this morning, Victoria Carriage Tours' Tom Walker says Sunday's incident was the first time in its 44-year history that an employee of the company was robbed on the streets of Victoria. As a result of the robbery, the company plans to go cash-less.

Wet the teddy bear and use it to mop up the mess?

Something tells me that this incident especially will fall on deaf ears at city hall.

1st in 44 years. I'm sure its completely unconnected to Victoria having a mayor and council who have in numerous ways telegraphed the message that crime is okay and victims are just collateral damage.

Saanich PD:

On Friday August 14, 2020 at 10:51 hours Saanich Police officers were dispatched to attend the 4100 block of Carey Road for a report of a group of 20-30 people making noise behind Northridge Elementary School.

At 11:00 p.m. additional calls were received that the group was now in the streets, had grown to over 100 people and they were becoming verbally aggressive and attempting to damage property on homes. As a result, additional officers were dispatched to assist. They arrived on Carey Road at approximately 11:10 p.m. and saw the large groups of youths gathered. They began to speak to some of them and then learned that there had been weapons involved, including a baton and potentially a knife that had been brandished by one of the youths. The suspect was believed to be at the school with the weapons.

The officers then made their way to the school to locate the suspects when they were flagged down by residents who provided additional information about the suspected weapon and concerns about the youth gathering.

The group eventually broke up and left the area as police remained on scene to speak to the residents.

We are still investigating the incident and are asking any of the residents to provide statements to the police. We are also investigating the timings and information provided during the call.

During the summer months, the Saanich Police deploy additional officers over the week-ends to assist in the increase for calls to service related to calls such as parties, large gatherings, liquor enforcement, noise disturbances, and beach fires.

Our department is committed to providing quality police service by working with the community to keep Saanich safe.
