-BEST has convictions for Possession for the Purpose and Firearms out of Campbell River in 2018. Odd they wouldn't be any more specific than "Vancouver Island".

Six charged in crackdown on Brothers Keepers gang

Two of the six — Andrew Miguel Best and Jannat Bibi Nadeem — remain at large and have warrants out for their arrest.

A warrant has been issued for Andrew Miguel Best (left), a 21-year-old male from Vancouver Island. He is wanted on charges of trafficking, conspiring to traffic, and possessing a controlled substance. Best has been linked to the violent B.C. gang the Brothers Keepers. A Brothers Keepers hoodie (right), worn by members of the organization, is also pictured.

Six people face 27 criminal charges after a crackdown on the activities of the Brothers Keepers gang in the Lower Mainland, says B.C.’s anti-gang police force.

During one of the investigations, CFSEU gathered evidence of a drug trafficking network connected to the gang, including an “aggressive” expansion of its drug trade from the Lower Mainland to Vancouver Island and Kamloops.

CFSEU says more than 11 kilograms of drugs including cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl were seized. Investigators also found loaded weapons and more than $50,000 in cash.

On Wednesday, the six were charges with offences including drug trafficking. They are Amandeep Singh Kang, 29, of Vancouver; Andrew Miguel Best, 21, of Vancouver Island; Dylan Robert, 22, of Surrey; Jannat Bibi Nadeem, 21, of Surrey; Moshmem Khanun Khan, 45. of Surrey; and Tanisha Bhatti, 25, of Vancouver.

Warrants have been issued for Best’s arrest, while Nadeem was recently arrested and released.

Day parole suspension lifted for killer Kerry Sim (formerly Kelly Ellard)

Sim was jailed in 2005 for her role in the murder of Victoria teen Reena Virk

Vancouver Sun - Nov 04, 2021

Kelly Ellard was convicted of second-degree murder in the 1997 death of Reena Virk.

The Parole Board of Canada has lifted a suspension of day parole for killer Kerry Sim, formerly Kelly Ellard.

In a ruling dated Oct. 28, the parole board said Sim — who was jailed in July 2005 for her role in the 1997 murder of Victoria teen Reena Virk — was first granted day parole in May 2016 and that it had been extended several times since then.

The ruling states that in July 2021, Sim met with her parole officer and lost her temper. It was reported to the parole board that there had been two-way domestic violence in Sim’s relationship and that she had consumed alcohol, which is not allowed under her parole conditions.

“Warrants were issued and executed on Aug. 12, 2021, due to an increase in risk/deterioration of behaviour and for protection of society,” the parole board stated.

Two men sentenced to 6 years each in death of Metchosin man beaten with hammer

November 5, 2021

A photo of the victim, 41-year old Shawn Campbell.

Two men have been sentenced to six years in prison for their involvement in the death of a Metchosin man beaten with a hammer in 2018.

Lee Hart, 40, and Nathen Monsour, 34, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in March for the death of 41-year-old Shawn Douglas Campbell.

Aggravating factors in the sentencing included the use of weapons, planning, distance driven — providing ample time for tempers to cool — and violence to a second victim who had no part in the conflict.

Monsour was sentenced to six years with a lifetime ban on possessing firearms.

Lee Hart was sentenced six years for manslaughter and was also served a three-year sentence for assault with a weapon, as another man was injured during the attack. His two sentences will be carried out concurrently.

Another set of pathetically inadequate sentences.  The firearms ban is particularly ludicrous, not to mention serving the time concurrently.  They’ll both be on the street again in three years.  Keep you hammers locked away.

They should be back on the streets in time to vote in the next provincial election. Perhaps they'll even run for office.

In pre-sentence reports, the court heard Monsour had a turbulent childhood characterized by his mother’s substance abuse and his time in foster care, while Hart had an uneventful upbringing except for one instance as a child when he was found in a hotel room with a sexual predator. Hart also has a history of criminal activity and drug use.

In statements made in court Nov. 3, both men expressed sincere remorse for their actions, Judge Mrozinski found. She said their guilty pleas, cooperation and family support were all indicators that rehabilitation is possible. She also took a Gladue report into consideration for Monsour, who self-identifies as Metis.

Crown argued for seven- to eight-year sentences for the men; Hart’s lawyer argued for four and-a-half years followed by three years probation, Monsour’s lawyer asked for four years. In the end, Mrozinski took the middle ground, issuing six-year sentences for both, minus time they have already served.

Monsour will serve another five years and 221 days, while Hart will serve another three years and 170 days.

This is the subject of the aforementioned tweet by Oak Bay PD:

"OBPD investigating a report of a male in his 50-60's, driving a vintage shiny dark green car with an off white fabric top, offering candy and a ride home to a 12 yr old girl on Central Ave near Hampshire at 3:05 this aft. Girl ran back to school and police were called."

Honestly I find anyone with a chunky ring questionable.

Greater Victoria Crime Stoppers

Sooke RCMP are appealing for information relating to a file they are currently investigating.

At about 7.15pm on October 29th a house in the 2500 block of Farmer Drive had shots fired at it. This resulted in one shot going through the houses living room window. Thankfully nobody was injured but the resident was left shaken by the incident.

If you know who was responsible for the shooting you can tell us anonymously by calling 1-800-1222-8477, or submit a tip online by clicking the 'contact us' button.

We can pass along your information and you will always remain anonymous.

I wonder what he could possibly want with those bolt cutters? I'm sure that there's a perfectly innocent explanation!

This story confuses me. Is the landlord watching a CCTV of his unit? What were the tenants doing during the break-in? Or is this a property cam and the landlord just watches it on a regular basis?

I think it’s clear the landlord lives in an upstairs unit. He has tenants below. His camera is just on his own unit.

Victoria police say tenants who were in the home in the 1200-block of Bay Street at the time called police around 1 p.m. to report someone had smashed a window and broken into the landlord’s upstairs suite.

At the same time, a VicPD release stated, the landlord was observing the suspect using a surveillance camera and returned home immediately.

I guess then does the landlord / tenant aspect add anything to the story?

Yes. the fact that they called the police at the same time the landlord was watching from work, but the landlord got there first and also apprehended the suspect. All before police arrived to mop up.
