this isn't a crime but i'm not sure where else to put it.

Police are asking residents in south Oak Bay to check their home surveillance footage after a report of a man attempting to lure a child into his vehicle Friday afternoon.

On Nov. 5, just after 3 p.m. the Oak Bay Police Department received a report a man had just tried to lure a 12-year-old girl into his vehicle.

The student was walking westbound on the north sidewalk along Central Avenue, just west of Hampshire Road, shortly after 2:50 p.m. when a vehicle drove up next to her and followed her for a short distance, police said in a news release. The man offered the student candy and a ride home. The student did not respond and ran back to her school to get help. Police did not locate the vehicle, described as a vintage, shiny, dark green car with an off-white fabric top that was up.

Pretty sure child luring is a crime under the Criminal Code.

Luring requires use of a phone or computer and also for a sexual purpose.

I didn't believe this, but I looked it up and you're correct.  If the police were satisfied of a nefarious purpose I guess the charges would be attempted kidnapping or something.

I had that happen when I was a kid, eight or nine years-old. Some guy approach my friend and I, and asked us to enter his vehicle to help him find some place. That was right around the time of the Michael Dunahee disappearance so all of the kids my age were well aware of the danger of a stranger asking you to enter a vehicle.

We ran away, and luckily there was an ambulance station nearby. We ran there, and they called the police. Police swarmed the area and caught the guy what felt like seconds later. It didn't go any further, as far as we were concerned so there likely was no charge.

Of course back then, he might have left the police station with some phone book pages imprinted on his forehead and that was that.

5’7” and 160 pounds. I’m not so sure that’s an “athletic build”.

That’s my only issue with this guy. Otherwise he’s hot af.

And he needs to upgrade his ride a bit too. 2008 Mazda 3 ain’t doing it for me.

If you are going to do things you shouldn't, why invest a lot of time, energy and money in making sure you are identifiable so you get caught?

Victoria’s criminal masterminds have perceived that getting caught means you’ll get a free meal and be sent on your merry way the next day, if not sooner.
