Air force veteran jailed for owning ‘extreme and horrific’ child **rnography

Andrew John Early Perry was sentenced in a Colwood courtroom to 18 months in jail

Nov. 23, 2022

A retired Air Force veteran has been sentenced to 18 months in jail for owning “extreme and horrific” child **rnography.

Andrew John Early Perry was also sentenced to two years probation and given a number of conditions, including a ban from social media, owning weapons and going to public parks, schools or community centres where youth under the age of 16 may be present, in Western Communities Provincial Court in Colwood on Oct. 19. Perry also has to comply with the Sex Offender Information Registry Act for 20 years and take any counselling recommended by his probation officer.

In the reading of her judgment, Judge Lisa Mrozinski said while this was Perry’s first criminal offence, there were no mitigating factors from Perry’s past. The Crown had initially called for a 30-month sentence, but Mrozinski said that would be “far too high.” She did note that Perry was “highly morally culpable” and that denunciation and deterrence must be put first when giving out sentences for cases involving sexual violence against children.

After police seized Perry’s computer and iPhone, they found 1,507 images of child **rnography on both devices, including collages, and stills taken from videos and videos themselves.

Perry served 20 years in the Air Force, often serving as a cook on ships.

“Cook on ships” isn’t the first thing that comes to mind for an Air Force veteran.

Unless he's cooking for the ship's Air Force chopper pilots/techs, could be that he was simply a steward/cook who ended up wearing blue instead of green or b&w.

-Not too surprised this release doesn't mention that POCETTI got "time served" on these convictions and a 2 year criminal driving prohibition...plus some restitution I believe.

On the other hand, he has a passel 'o K file charges out of Victoria going to trial at the end of January 2023 and it appears from CSO that he is still in custody.

Male Found Guilty of Assault with Vehicle

Central Saanich, B.C., November 24th, 2022

File Number: #2021-2785

Johnathan POCETTI was found guilty of all charges, including Assault Police with a Weapon, in provincial court on November 17th, 2022; after fleeing Central Saanich Police in August of 2021.

On August 30th 2021, a Central Saanich Police officer noted a Motor Vehicle Act infraction on POCETTI’s truck while it was filling up at the Co-op Gas Bar on West Saanich Rd. When the member attempted to stop POCETTI to speak with him about the infraction, POCETTI reversed his truck away from the officer’s police vehicle into a curb in front of the gas station building. When the officer used his patrol car to block the truck’s exit, POCETTI drove up onto the hood of the police vehicle, pushing it backwards, narrowly missing a gas pump and causing further damage to the gas station’s property.

“Central Saanich Police would like to thank our policing partners across the CRD as well as the public for assisting with our investigation,” said Community Engagement Officer Constable Tristan Gentile; “this coordinated approach led to the apprehension of the accused as soon as possible”. No one was hurt during the incident, including members of the public. POCETTI was taken into custody a short time later with the assistance of the Greater Victoria Emergency Response Team. POCETTI was found guilty of Assault Police with a Weapon, Dangerous Driving, Flight from Police, Mischief, and Drive While Prohibited.

Blood spatter analysis paints Metchosin man’s last moments

On another gruesome day in court, images of bloodstains found throughout Martin Payne’s home were analyzed.
In one image taken by RCMP investigators, a hatchet and knife are seen on top of 60-year-old Payne’s bathroom counter, just inches away from where his body was found.
On the blade of the hatchet and the hilt of a Bowie knife, which is typically used for hunting, is blood matching Payne’s DNA profile.

A blood spatter expert testified that there was an attempt to clean the blade of the knife and the bathroom floor. RCMP Staff Sergeant Trevor Knopp testified to the jury that an unknown liquid had diluted the bloodstains.
Hundreds of droplets were documented in the main entranceway and streaming down the hallway’s walls, leading into the primary bedroom. Knopp said the spray likely indicated multiple strikes with more than one impact pattern.
Blood was also found pooled along the hallway floor, the green carpet of the bedroom, and in the back corner of the kitchen sink.
According to Knopp, all of the blood matched the DNA profile of Payne.

Next week, the co-accused’s defence lawyers will undoubtedly put the blood spatter analysis under serious question. After that, a DNA expert is set to testify.

Officer Injured As Man Arrested During Santa Claus Parade

Date: Saturday, November 26th, 2022 - File: #22-45178

Victoria, BC – A VicPD officer working to help keep the Santa Claus Parade safe and family-friendly was injured after a man fought with officers who were arresting him after he allegedly assaulted a person in the crowd this evening.

Officers were deployed to the Peninsula Co-op Santa Claus Parade as part of a special duty to help ensure the event was safe and family-friendly. Additionally, a VicPD contingent were walking in the parade and handing out candy canes. A parade spectator approached members of the VicPD contingent to report that a man had assaulted a member of the crowd and was walking through the crowd trying to instigate additional fights.

Officers approached the man and escorted him away from the parade route in an effort to effect a safe arrest in a safe location away from bystanders and children in the area. When officers moved to arrest the man, he began to fight with them. After several minutes, officers were able to take the man into custody. A VicPD officer sustained a non-life-threatening injury during the arrest. The man was not injured. The parade spectator did not require medical attention.

The man was transported to VicPD cells where he remains. The parade continued without further incident.

If you witnessed this incident, have video of the incident or the man’s arrest or have information about this incident and have yet to speak with an officer please call the VicPD Report Desk at (250) 995-7654 extension 1.

Yeah. Shocking. Not even a parade for children can happen without violence, in this town.

B.C.’s police watchdog is investigating after a suspected shoplifter fell two or three storeys Saturday night at Uptown Shopping Centre in Saanich.

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) of B.C. is investigating to determine what role, if any, police actions played in the man’s fall.

On Nov. 26, just before 11 p.m., the Saanich Police Department was called to Walmart about a shoplifter. Police say a suspect ran to an upper parking lot then fell from a ledge outside a guard rail and landed about two or three stories below. He was taken to hospital by ambulance with serious injuries.

Ouch. I wonder where the guy was trying to go? Just running or did he know of a possible way around and down?

Mike K. might have some insights to offer. I believe he used to be this board's unofficial parkour expert? (Although these days he's more likely to parkour his butt on the couch than actually get up and do something.)

West Shore RCMP are advising the public to collect deliveries as soon as possible, after several reports of parcels being stolen from front porches and apartment lobbies over the weekend.
