A fan favourite pop culture event has announced it’s no longer running in Victoria, following a hiatus in 2023.

On Tuesday, Capital City Comic Con said it had no plans to host any future conventions.

“Thank you everyone for your patience and understanding while we were on an extended break. After much discussion over the past year, we sadly announce that we do not have any future plans for another convention,” reads a social media post from the convention

Victoria, where conventions go to die.

I'm saddened by this, but I'm not shocked.

There must something we're not doing in this city to keep these conventions.

Maybe it’s just volume in the space. I went to a couple of these events, they were very well attended, if not sold out as I recall.

The convention centre too small, the arena too large?

Had great fun at one of the San Diego CC's many years ago; the one aspect that really jumps out when looking at the most popular comic-con shows around North America is Victoria, by a very long shot is one of, if not the smallest market, amongst the most successful comic-cons. We're talking the likes of San Diego, Anaheim, Atlanta, Houston, and Calgary in this country.

Perhaps we are just too small to generate either the interest and/or revenue required and sufficient to not only put on these shows but ensure they are profitable. In that vein they usually feature and have on-hand big name entertainment stars from Star Trek, Star Wars etc., and other mega movie/comic "franchises" who obviously don't show up for free.

Emerald City probably siphons off half the market here.
