I think the very big trucks get traditional overhead doors.

The trucks are lifted in and out by helicopter?

Sorry, I misunderstood. You're saying the trucks themselves have overhead doors. The firefighters need to climb a ladder to get into the truck through the roof. Which is why the trucks carry ladders with them at all times. It all makes sense now.

People who live in glass firehalls shouldn't cast the first stone.

How does that refer to accordions and polka? There’s no rock throwing in that genre. At least not typically, if the tempo is right.

Why are you bellowing about accordions? Weird Mike is at it again, happily wandering* from one topic to another.

Note to self: puns about jazz greats will get no response on VV. Puns about accordions, Weird Al Yankovic, and SCTV will get thunderous applause.

Bc assessment says this sold in November. Don’t recall seeing that anywhere. Any idea who bought? Guessing condos?

Off topic, but wouldn't it be funny if they say the doors on the new hall are too small for the trucks? I was looking at pics of the Esquimalt firehall and it occurred to me how it would be a magnificent exclamation point on this whole firehall controversy. Similar to some of those zingers that came late in the JSB-replacement saga and also the sewage treatment saga. "It's fantastic new infrastructure... except for this serious deficiency."

IIRC, the original discussion over the garage doors wasn't that they were too small, it was that the apron in front of the doors (distance between doors and street) wasn't long enough to allow the firetrucks to park without extending on to the street. I don't know if that is still the case but it certainly looks like the trucks would extend across the sidewalk at least.

I honestly don't remember any issues re: the trucks and access. I was just making a hilariously wry observation re: "wouldn't it be the icing on the cake if this happens."

That sounds like the business sold but bca says land sold. Maybe same transaction.

Looking at the photos perhaps that is why they redid the boulevards to jut out right in front of the driveway.

From what I know all of those lands were owned by the Jawls / Pollen families although it is possible that they flipped the properties or part thereof now that they have been rezoned and have a development permit.

Any old news items about that issue re: the length of the trucks?
