I think name recognition is more than remembering Jim Smith when you get to the polls.

It’s more about having a name like Gordy Dodd where a whole lot of people already know your name and what you are about.

I think that most people go to the polls to vote for Mayor and perhaps a couple of councillors that they know. I doubt that many people have the full slate in their mind. After they have checked the names they want the others are chosen by what is on the top of their mind and what they recognize as having heard.

Sure I'm serious. I think Alto is about the only one that doesn't have baggage as she's managed to distance herself from the union stuff, Coleman has become a weather vane and hasn't fought the good fight in some time. Young and Madoff are well past their 'best before' dates, Joe and Lucas had great intentions with the homeless portfolio but disappeared when tent city blew up in their faces, Loveday, while approachable and with good ideas doesn't have the depth of life experience beyond the social justice world and is too closely associated with Isitt and his Maoist/Marxist bizarreness. Helps has shown to be a good manager of meetings but has aligned herself too closely with the vocal minority social engineers.

Unfortunately they have created such a labyrinth of complexities and alliances that it will be next to impossible for any outsider with a reasonable fiscal approach to attempt to navigate the council back to what a council should be doing...which is infrastructure, planning, zoning and bylaws. This council are now nothing more than social workers and social engineers.

This is an excellent synopsis of this terrible Council.  The one who has impressed me most has been Marianne Alto.  I very much disliked her carpetbagging, union and VP of the BCNDP ties.  But she's turned out to be the most sensible councillor out there. Helps manages meetings well, but is too much of a social engineer for my tastes.

I'm dismayed to hear of a left-wing slate.  Exactly what the City doesn't need.  The other names I've heard for council are equally terrible.  Two of whom VHF has mentioned in a previous post and Jordan Reichert, a single-issue, anti-horse and carriage militant vegan.

Voter apathy, poor media coverage and the usual overwhelming number of candidates will result in all incumbent councilors who run winning re-election. The only one who may be unseated is the Mayor who may have done enough to rouse Victorians against her, if a credible candidate stands.

There will, however be at least one council seat up for grabs.

It's safe to say any newcomers will be from the above list. I don't see any knights on shining armour riding in from obscurity to save the day.

We do not have a clear indication, but some think Lucas might not run.

Yeah, that's what I thought.  The post sounded definitive versus speculative.

Lucas stepping down and being replaced by someone from that SJW slate would be a real shame. After years of hating Helps, IMHO opinion I now think helps can stay. Id like to lose issit, loveday and Madoff, keep young, keep thorton joe, and get some new blood in there that will keep the uptick in development going and work toward amalgamation

Helps has cost the City $20 million a year in extra BS. Do not forgive her for that now.

Well right now there is no alternative. But I’ve met 1 on 1 with Helps 3 times in the last year (OK Mike tagged along last time) but I’m not changing my tune about her having to go. If there is an alternarive

I have questioned that myself. Even questioned the tenacity to take her down after some of those meetings.
