Greater Victoria did not win the smart cities challenge and the attached $10M. ☹️

I’m puzzled by this statement:
« But the outcome does nothing to change plans to roll out transportation services that focus on seniors, new immigrants and First Nations students.«

Just noticed at 1:35 of the video that the example of the FN youth requiring a $10M solution to enhance transit is because he/she "missed the bus" and wanted a "backup ride".

Technically they thought they missed the bus, and therefore needed a backup ride.  Maybe the bus was late/missing/full and the $10M was to make public transit dependable for time-critical use.

Transit frequency on the Saanich peninsula is 20-120 minutes. If you're in the Pauquachin reserve (Cole Bay 3) and miss the 83 bus, your next bus arrives in 2 hours. In that case, having additional mobility options would be a significant boon.

Yeah, it's also used (and credited) on page 28 of the current issue of Douglas Magazine. It's a great shot, check it out.

I think kids have school buses.

They do. They also have feet.

When I was growing up I lived 5k from my school. If I missed my ride then I was on my own. I only missed it once as the 5k run to school that day taught me an important lesson.

There are always going to be exceptions, but the thought of spending all or some of $10M providing a service so that kids who can't get to the bus on time have a "backup ride" is ludicrous.

i grew up in a town where 1 single bus would cycle through 4 different routes before it came back again and as a kid if i missed the bus it was my own fault and i was walking..  if you provide a back up they will learn to rely on the back up.. i do get the importance for kids to get to school but there should be some responsibility on their own part to get out of the house early and be at the bus stop 10-15 minutes before it's due to arrive..

You might say that as she is the nominee in Murray Ranklin's riding for the NDP in the upcoming Federal election. LOL

Well... there’s that, If she wins. But also, I noticed her complaining about that salary for council members early on, relative to the amount of hours worked. I just don’t think she will return even if she doesn’t win this year. Which I hope she does. I’d love to have a different view on council

I apologize for the cross-posting, but I am rather p-o'ed at the CoV and its decision makers. I received my 2019 property tax notice today and my taxes are up 22.5%!   Thanks Lisa.

and what new or better services are you getting for that type of increase... for there has to be something that is causing such a jump that you should benefit from

You must have had a large increase in your property assessment. Average tax increase should be less than 5%.

To be fair, I had a slightly smaller residual HOG from 2018, but the majority of increases were in the "General" and "Police" categories.

The Greens certainly feel that it is their riding to lose.
