Helps/Alto can't deny crime is a problem anymore so the new messaging is that it is a problem but only a handful of people are behind it so Eby's study will solve the problem. Move on then, nothing more to see here.

Alas, the gangs of drunken marauding “youths” tend to undercut this message.

A gang destroyed a statue - on film - and nobody was arrested.

Not sure if VicPD will have more success catching this new gang being bad.

Well yeah, but they were fighting colonial oppression so they’re pretty much immune to law enforcement even if the police are on the scene.

Former Victoria councillor Helen Hughes has passed away.

Hughes served between 1990 and 2008.

There’s a fairly comprehensive bio on Hughes here: https://www.royalroa.../helen-hughes-0

If Helen Hughes were on the ballot today, would she be elected? She was by all accounts an amazing person who contributed greatly to her community and undertook her duties with care and consideration. She did it as a matter of civic duty - it wasn't about the next rung on the ladder, or an ideology, it was about what was best for Victoria. Arguably, a very different person from who is sitting at that table right now. Given the state of things, I'm not sure she'd run in the current environment and worse yet, I'm not sure she'd be elected.

There's something that is very sad about that thought - that we are moving rather rapidly towards shutting the door on some very capable and effective leaders, not because they can't do the job and can't do it well, but because we've chosen the sizzle over the steak.

I think you mean the "fizzle" over the steak.
