We went to Red Robin for dinner then left the vehicle parked in that lot and just walked a block down to Douglas St and watched from in front of Mayfair Mall. Great vantage point actually. There were hundreds of people down in that location. Must say along with Butchart's the truck parade has become one of those festive events I really look forward to. And of course its for a good cause.

The thought did occur that with all those traffic cops running the gauntlet and blocking access roads to Douglas Street from at least half a dozen access points ahead of the parade, who was left in the city to fight downtown crime, lol

After the truck parade the kidlin was begging to "go see some lights" - as though the lighted trucks weren't sufficient - so off we trundled in the general direction of Layritz via Interurban: Glyn/Alan/Loenholm roads all have some spectacular displays. The amount of effort setting up some of them boggles the mind. Further along turning onto Mann Ave there are also some very nice efforts as well particularly on Eastridge Cres.

^ yes. It’s a shame somebody doesn’t add them into the TC map. It still show only 4 CoV displays, for example.

Which is silly because the very best displays are generally not in the "city". There are historically some great neighborhoods out in Colwood for example, out beyond and above Atkins Road. Not sure about in recent years but Satellite Place and others in Oak Bay on the waterfront near the Oak Bay Beach hotel/Snug Pub had some spectacular light displays even before the old Candy Cane Lane days.

Note:  I'm only using the City as an example of how sparse the TC list / map is.

In the West shore they only currently show 7 houses.

There’s a house just west of the new Save Ons in Colwood, one street south of Sooke Road, that has an absolute ton of Christmas ornaments and statues on the front lawn.

Market Square is quiet now. But soon, very soon, the big, deep sound of Tuba Christmas will reverberate once more.

On Saturday afternoon from 1 to 3, the square will be filled with musicians of all ages and gleaming brass instruments. For many music lovers, the rumble of 100 low-brass instruments signals the start of the Christmas season.

Some revellers will bring their chairs, settling in to enjoy their favourite Christmas carols. Others will pause during their Christmas shopping, surprised and delighted by the low growl of the age-old favourites.

Children will scramble on the statue of the massive polar bear and volunteers will move through the crowd, collecting donations for the Times Colonist Christmas Fund. This year’s Times Colonist Christmas Fund campaign has received $378,804 in donations from 1,430 donors from its Nov. 12 launch to Dec. 7. The fundraising goal is $1 million.

“We’re excited to be back,” said Paul Beauchesne, who organizes the event, teaches at the University of Victoria and is principal tuba player with the Victoria Symphony.

No matter how old you are, an empty Christmas wrapping tube is still fun to bonk someone over the head with.

But like everything else these days, modern wrapping paper tubes aren't anywhere near as robust as the one's I remember from my youth. One semi-decent bonk and they are out-of-commission for good.
