Every year for more than 20, excepting one during Covid, locals have gathered in the parking lot The Salt Spring Mercantile (or Patterson’s) for a sing along with Valdy and some Christmas cheer on the Monday before Christmas. I always thought it was put on by the Chamber or something, but after buying that particular business, we discovered it was all us.

Of course we keep the shop open, but it’s not a commercial event at all. We give out cookies, cider, coffee, hot chocolate and more, I’m sure many bring their own mugs as well.

This year being so close to Christmas Day and the weather being so nice, we had probably the largest turnout yet. Valdy figured 150-200, I’d say I agree.

Tough to get decent night photos of it on my phone, but you can hear it around the whole neighbourhood and it really sets a nice mood.

Certainly the most interesting B.C. Ferry terminal tonight.

How are the ferries doing with all this wind?

No wind at all until later. The Skeena almost never goes out due to wind, it so protected the whole way. Great ‘90’s built open deck ferry.

I have considered moving to Salt Spring, what are the chances of getting a doctor?

Maybe better than the city these days. We have one, have for years! I’m sure they are all full, of course.
