A new bowling alley is one step closer to becoming a reality in Saanich.

Council members voted unanimously to support the new bowling alley being proposed for the Uptown Shopping Centre during the Aug. 12 meeting.

The Banquet at Uptown had requested support from council for the company’s application to the B.C. Liquor and Cannabis Regulation Branch. The Banquet applied to extend the hours of sale until 2 a.m., rather than the default midnight as outlined in food primary licenses. The company also applied for a condition that would allow patrons to get up out of their seats to dance, bowl or enjoy live music.

All things that likely will decrease the amount of boozed consumed, like getting rid of beer guardens.

Was this ever anything more than a PR exercise for the company?

I work at Uptown and we just got a letter from Saanich about an early notice liquor license application.. it is dated from over a year ago not sure if that was a typing error or if it got lost in the mail and we just got it?

Only a year late, that sounds about right!

You see munis have figured out that if they send you notice AHEAD of time then you might show up and complain. Send notice a year late and everyone is good!

Did you happen to see what date the envelope was postmarked?  Very possible the letter was composed a year ago but only sent a few weeks back, and someone just forgot to update the date.
