Quite the headline -- "L.A. Suspends Air Quality Rules to Cremate Backlog of Covid-19 Victims"

/one might even call it incendiary.

Israeli hospital: 98% of staff who got 2nd shot have high-level COVID antibodies

‘The vaccine works wonderfully’: Sheba Medical Center says Pfizer inoculation gives more protection than recovery from coronavirus infection

The World Health Organization chief on Monday lambasted drugmakers’ profits and vaccine inequalities, saying it’s “not right” that younger, healthier adults in wealthy countries get vaccinated against COVID-19 before older people or health care workers in poorer countries and charging that most vaccine makers have targeted locations where “profits are highest.”

Israel is leading the world in its vaccine drive, has started vaccinating members of the public from age 45 and is reportedly paying more than other countries for Pfizer’s shot.

7:45 A.M. Israel hits new daily vaccination record, says Health Minister

"We broke a new record – 186,000 vaccines in one day!" tweeted Health Minister Yuli Edelstein on Tuesday moring.

Of the 186,000 people who received coronavirus vaccine jabs on Monday, 114,000 received the first dose and 72,000 received the second and final dose, Edelstein added.

Closed California versus open Florida, who is outperforming the other? Florida has smaller population than California, but both have similar number of cases per 100,000 residents

I think we are looking at least to another summer of being closed down this year simply due to lack of vaccine supply. I am hoping that the temporary delays are not about to turn into permanent delays until after the EU or the US have vaccinated everybody.

I cannot believe how far behind Israel we are at this point.

If the US hits 3,500 deaths today I'll call that a plateau or even a drop.

What are we attributing to the drops?

As soon as the US can vaccinate everyone over sixty five we should see a serious drop both in the death rate and hospitalizations. We are thinking of heading down to California both for some un and the vaccine in the next month or so. I am growing increasingly skeptical about the availability of vaccine any time soon here in Canada.

If you look at any of the flu charts or past pandemics then infections start to plateau in January. No magic, nothing unusual. We know that warming weather and more sunlight (ie vitamin D) slow the rate of infection by viruses.

Problem is that if the authorities tell people that then they are worried that they will start to ignore lockdown orders.

Florida and Arizona are already doing it.

Are we going to lift restrictions on cruise ships this summer? Are we going to lift restrictions on international travel for other than athletes, actors and the elites? Are we going to allow restaurants to return to normal operations?

The answer to each of those is no so a tourist town like Victoria might as well be locked down.

You have to listen to the specifics of what our vaccinated leaders are saying. When they say that anyone who wants a shot can start to get one in September that doesn't mean that everyone will be vaccinated by September. It means that the 70% of people who are not in groups 1 or 2 (or friends of politicians and hospital administrators) can start to queue up for a shot.  The amount of vaccine (why our leaders have been lying about since day one) will then determine how long it takes to vaccinate people.

Well. Sparky I suspect that you might well be right although I hope you are wrong.

Like I said we figure that we might as well head south for a couple of months and get our shots in California along with lots of sun. Any thoughts of tourists being back by this summer is perhaps optimistic. Does not help that downtown is turning into a bit of a hole. We avoid it as do most of the neighbours these days.

perhaps pulling away from the high transmission over the holidays? people are naturally more likely to be hunkered down now.

we do not need to get anywhere remotely near to “everyone” vaccinated to see a massive drop in deaths and hospitalizations.

No we don't but the WHO and our health administrators have already said that lockdowns need to remain in place until everyone is vaccinated since you can be vaccinated and still be a carrier.

lockdowns will be lifted as deaths and hositalizations drop.  just as they have been all through this.
