...COVID won’t go anywhere until simple stupidity is eradicated.

I wish there was a vaccination against stupidity, but of course the people who need it the most would never get it.

^ you going to recommend it for your 10-year-old daughter or niece?

I would if doctors and scientists recommended to do so in order to eradicate COVID and save lives … but then you’re trying to change the subject, aren’t you?

Back on topic - 70 million ADULTS are ignorantly and selfishly choosing to perpetuate the misery … and courting their own demise in the process.

And Biden can’t “fix” that lack of intelligence short of having the military hold all 70 million of them down in order to be forcibly vaccinated.

Your next COVID “talking point” is?

Pro-Tip … Biden has nothing whatsoever to do with the decisions made by American Idiots.

President is supposed to lead.  Biden can’t.

Thanks for the in depth analysis, you must have worked pretty hard to come up with this little nugget.

Good job!

Matthew Cardinal, 35, is a COVID-19 long hauler and needs to see a respirolgist for his severely damaged lungs.

In late March, he was in an ICU bed fighting for his life after he contracted COVID-19.

He's grateful for the small things in life, such as going for walks and sleeping in his own bed.

"Sometimes, I just wanted to slip away because it was just traumatic. It was hell being in the ICU," Cardinal told CBC News.

*snip*

Cardinal believes he contracted COVID-19 at the restaurant he works at as a server and bartender.

It's the same restaurant where he's now facing frustrated customers and the threat of physical violence while trying to enforce the province's proof-of-vaccination policy, which came into effect at the end of September. Saskatchewan residents now have to show proof of vaccination against COVID-19 or a negative COVID test result to access several establishments, businesses and event venues, including for indoor dining at restaurants.

"There's some people that throw tantrums and they get angry," Cardinal said.

"I was threatened to get punched out ... it was very confrontational."

Cardinal said the restaurant owner was made aware of the situation and that the man involved has been banned.

He's not disclosing his workplace to protect his safety.

Cardinal says it's a small but vocal group of people who are putting the safety of staff and customers at risk.

"We're given these simple rules to follow for our safety. It's to get vaccinated so we don't have these crazy outbreaks, so there's no more Matthew Cardinals in the ICU," he said.

(from 1999) didn't anyone think of this guy's freedom? they should stop this medical authoritarian madness

After a manhunt across three provinces, a man is in custody in Winnipeg. He's accused of knowingly infecting four women in Winnipeg with the AIDS virus.

Raymond Peter Miron is under arrest for four counts of aggravated assault. The 30 year old man was arrested in Calgary last week. He was brought back to Winnipeg on Wednesday.

The case mirrors one sent to the Supreme Court of Canada last year.

A B.C. man had unprotected sex with several women and did not tell them he had HIV. After he was acquitted of assault, the Supreme Court ordered a new trial.

"This decision now says that if you're HIV positive and you're going to engage in sexual contact, you have to disclose that" says Douglas Steward who is the defendant's lawyer.

The four women Miron had sex with range in age from 25 to 41-years-old. The incidents occurred between January 1995 and May of this year.

Two women have tested positive for HIV. One has also contracted Hepatitis B and C, and herpes.

Vaccination reduces the risk of dying or being hospitalised with Covid-19 by 90%, a French study of 22.6 million people over the age of 50 has found.

The research published on Monday also found that vaccines appear to protect against the worst effects of the most prevalent virus strain, the Delta variant.

“This means that those who are vaccinated are nine times less at risk of being hospitalised or dying from Covid-19 than those who have not been vaccinated,” the epidemiologist Mahmoud Zureik, who oversaw the research, told Agence France-Presse.

The study – the largest of its kind so far – was carried out by Epi-Phare a scientific group set up by France’s health system, its national health insurance fund, l’Assurance Maladie (CNAM), and the country’s ANSM medicines agency.

Researchers compared 11.3 million vaccinated over-50s with the same number of unvaccinated from the same age group between 27 December 2020, when vaccinations began in France, and 20 July this year.

They found “a reduction in the risk of hospitalisation superior to 90%” from the 14th day after the second dose and a similar reduction in the number of deaths from Covid-19. Similar findings have previously been published in Israel, the UK and the US.

The legendary rock musician has been a vocal opponent of COVID-19 vaccine mandates and harsh restrictive measures introduced by the government. In late August, Clapton released "This Has Gotta Stop," a song that appears to be critical of lockdowns and the overall political discourse.

Social media users have criticized world-renowned music magazine Rolling Stone for a recent article nagging "Layla" author Eric Clapton for his "pro-choice" stance on COVID-19 vaccination mandates and restrictive measures.

The magazine noted in a resonant article that Clapton not only distributes "vaccine nonsense", but also financially helps those who actively advocate the abolition of compulsory vaccination against the disease.

The 76-year-old rocker reportedly donated 1,000 pounds ($1,360) to the British band Jam For Freedom through a GoFundMe set up to help pay for legal bills incurred after "breaching COVID-19 regulations" at one of their shows. He reportedly praised the band's founding member, Cambel McLaughlin, for the "great work" he has been doing, and allegedly agreed to lend Jam For Freedom his own six-person Volkswagen Transporter van to drive them around to shows after the two chatted on the phone.

Britain’s early handling of the coronavirus pandemic was one of the worst public health failures in UK history, with ministers and scientists taking a “fatalistic” approach that exacerbated the death toll, a landmark inquiry has found.

“Groupthink”, evidence of British exceptionalism and a deliberately “slow and gradualist” approach meant the UK fared “significantly worse” than other countries, according to the 151-page “Coronavirus: lessons learned to date” report led by two former Conservative ministers.

The crisis exposed “major deficiencies in the machinery of government”, with public bodies unable to share vital information and scientific advice impaired by a lack of transparency, input from international experts and meaningful challenge.

Despite being one of the first countries to develop a test for Covid in January 2020, the UK “squandered” its lead and “converted it into one of permanent crisis”. The consequences were profound, the report says. “For a country with a world-class expertise in data analysis, to face the biggest health crisis in 100 years with virtually no data to analyse was an almost unimaginable setback.”

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has suggested that people reluctant to receive a COVID-19 shot should be inoculated while asleep.
"I know many people are still hesitant. That's the problem, those people who do not want to get vaccinated ... Let's enter their houses and vaccinate them while asleep. End of story", Duterte said, as quoted by the newspaper the Inquirer.

Despite violent protests in Rome this weekend over new COVID-19 requirements for workplaces, Italy is moving ahead with the strictest measures against COVID-19 in Europe.

*snip*

Starting Oct. 15, Italy will become the first European country to require the so-called green pass — the digital or paper proof of vaccination, immunity or a negative test in the past 48 hours — in all places of work, both private and public. It's a step short of fully mandating vaccines, something Prime Minister Mario Draghi openly considered a month ago.

The new workplace green pass requirement is still one of the toughest in the world, giving workers five days of "unjustified absence," after which their salary can be suspended, though they can't be fired. Employees found inside the workplace without a green pass will face fines of up $2,100 Cdn; for employers who don't check workers' green passes, as much as $1,400 Cdn.

The Italian government first introduced the pass in June for international travel, then extended it to indoor restaurant dining and theatres, gyms and pools. In early September, it was extended further, to long-distance train rides, interregional buses and ferries, domestic flights and parents entering schools.

Italy's Health Minister Roberto Speranza appears regularly on television, soft selling the green pass and expressing understanding about the fear felt by vaccine-hesitant people, all while trying to gently coax them toward getting inoculated.

only mandates for covid-19 vaccine, nothing else for some reason

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott issued an executive order on Monday to prohibit any entity — including private businesses — from enforcing a COVID-19 vaccine mandate on workers, and he called on state lawmakers to pass a similar ban into law.

The move comes as the Biden administration is set to issue rules requiring employers with more than 100 workers ensure their employees are either vaccinated or tested weekly for the coronavirus. Several major companies, including Texas-based American Airlines and Southwest Airlines, have said they would abide by the federal mandate.

"No entity in Texas can compel receipt of a COVID-19 vaccine by any individual, including an employee or a consumer, who objects to such vaccination for any reason of personal conscience, based on a religious belief, or for medical reasons, including prior recovery from COVID-19," Abbott wrote in his order.

Last year, George Washington's presidential administration became surprisingly relevant to today's politics — not only because of his prescience with regards to so many of America's current political ills, or his founding father status. Rather Washington, like Trump and now Biden, had to fight a raging pandemic.

As biologist Joshua S. Loomis explains in his book "Epidemics: The Impact of Germs and Their Power Over Humanity," Washington and other founding fathers like John Adams were concerned that because most soldiers in the Continental Army had not been exposed to smallpox as children, they would be susceptible to an outbreak once everyone was living in close quarters. As John Adams argued, "the smallpox is ten times more terrible than Britons, Canadians, and Indians together."

These Founding Fathers' fears were confirmed when an epidemic hit Boston (then controlled by the British) and refugees began to pour in behind American lines. Washington responded by imposing strict quarantine on any soldier showing signs of the disease or who had recently received variolation, an early form of inoculation in which people were infected with substances from the pustules of mildly infected patients.

While quarantining worked for the American cause in Boston, however, it was less successful in Canada, as nearly half the troops were wiped out by smallpox. Britain took advantage of this, quickly dashing American dreams of conquering part of Canada.

Just as Biden did with today's military, Washington eventually decided that he needed to require every soldier to receive an inoculation (albeit through variolation), a policy that he secretly implemented during the winters of 1777 and 1778. His plan worked; today many historians argue that it was essential to America's success in the Revolutionary War, as Washington otherwise would have had to waste time fighting outbreaks and possibly lose too many of his troops in the process.

No question it was botched ... albeit that the architect of the withdrawal was the Secretary of Defense, a civilian.

I think we can all agree, though, that when the army is forcing medical intervention on its own population, society as we know it has already collapsed, and a dictatorship has arisen.

Agreed ... something would have to have gone terribly wrong with society, and the government (whomever that might be) would have stepped over a long established line.

The premise would be honorable enough (to save lives, and return society to normal), but as is very often the case, returning to "normal" would likely never happen as the government learned to enjoy their new found powers over the populace.

My only caveat would be that to blame the current COVID situation on a sitting President (whomever that might be) is simply lazy, and 100% incorrect.

Trump and Biden are equally responsible for their own COVID related mishandling of differing situations ... but neither one of them is 100% responsible for the current 70 million anti-vaxers, many (if not most) of whom are the only ones left spreading COVID, taking up beds in the ICU with COVID, or dying a painful death from COVID.

Yeah yeah, I know you all know. But up until now I had been on a unit sequestered away from COVID. I took a job in a MICU just over a month ago and we are starting to fill back up with COVID + patients. My God, it’s more horrifying than what I had pictured from everyone sharing their stories. Every single covid patient I have had has been in their 30’s, overweight but no other medical issues.

It’s one thing to have an elderly person intubated with a few chronic conditions who’s septic and riding the vent. It’s a totally other beast to admit a patient who is walking & talking on 30L/50% HFNC with sats in mid-low 90’s, who over the course of 6 hours gets up to 50L/100% plus the nonrebreather, best spo2 is 91% just lying in bed and the second they reach for their phone they desat to the 70’s. RR 40’s-50’s. Begging them to self-prone as it’s their last hope but they just won’t do it. They can’t tolerate bipap.

You talk to them about their kids, their spouses, what they do for a living, the vacation they’re supposed to go on next week. You watch them wither away over a few days until they don’t even have the energy to talk to their own family. Until it’s time to intubate/paralyze/prone. And we stay in that purgatory for what feels like forever. Peak pressures 35 or more, shitty volumes, sats still not that great. They’re not an ECMO candidate. Nephrology is hesitant to start CVVH.

We all know where this is going. Even if they make it off the vent, they’ll have been paralyzed for 2 or more weeks with so much atrophy it will take months to just be able to walk again. They’ll likely have a trach (if they’re stable enough for surgery). They’ll be in a rehab facility unable to go to their kids soccer games. Unable to eat real food or sleep in bed with their spouse.

It’s absolutely terrifying knowing this could be the fate of any of us. and I still have family members who won’t get vaccinated. All I can say is I am humbled to be here with you all, and so amazed at those of you who made it through those first waves - whether you are still at the bedside or not. I’m here with you and hope to take some of the burden off.

A Las Vegas mother sick with COVID-19 was denied a lung transplant in the weeks after giving birth because her insurance wouldn't cover the costs for the procedure, according to reports.

Now, her family is begging Nevada Medicaid to "waive their magic wand" and "not let insurance be the grim reaper of this new mommy" on a GoFundMe page set up for her medical expenses.

Gabriela Acuna contracted COVID-19 in August, while she was pregnant, and was admitted to Centennial Hills Hospital on August 30, according to WKBN. Her sister, Paula Olmeda, wrote on the GoFundMe page that Acuna held off getting vaccinated until she could have an appointment with her OBGYN.

"The week she had her appointment to ask for OB's blessing, she got COVID," Olmeda wrote.

The Centers for Disease Control issued an "urgent" warning last month for pregnant people to get vaccinated, and says that compared to those who are not expecting, pregnant people who catch a symptomatic case of COVID-19 have a two-fold risk of admission to intensive care and a 70% increased risk of death. Misinformation around COVID-19 vaccines and infertility has fueled distrust in the vaccine among some pregnant people, but the vaccines are safe for them.

Politicians in both Canada and the United States are pushing the Biden administration to reopen the U.S. land border to fully vaccinated Canadian travellers.

Canadians have not been allowed to cross the land border to the U.S. since March 2020 except for essential purposes. The emergency measure was extended last month and will remain in effect until at least Oct. 21.
