Councillor Isitt has on several occasions raised complaints about feedback being from anyone anywhere with access to the forms.

The operators of the Oak Bay Marina are getting another five years to nail down a long-term plan for the Beach Drive site.

A Monday statement from the District of Oak Bay says the municipality and Oak Bay Marine Group have reached an agreement in principle for a five-year lease extension starting next year and running until 2027.

Songhees Chief Ronald Sam said Spewhung remains underutilized because it fails to commemorate the Lekwungen Peoples. His nation answered the district’s request for marina proposals in 2020 with its own plan, but was removed from the selection process early on.

“We weren’t even given respect as a government,” Sam said, calling the process obnoxious and adding he doesn’t agree with the extension of the current lease.

The Songhees are looking to expand economic development and offer a greater Lekwungen and tourist presence at Spewhung, he added. “You can’t have reconciliation without true economic reconciliation.”

Sam has not spoken with the community group ReconciliACTION Oak Bay and remains undecided about doing so. In fact, the Songhees are prepared to take legal action against the District of Oak Bay, he said, if thorough Indigenous consultation doesn’t ensue. However, Sam said he is “willing to go back to the drawing board” with council.

Maybe it’s an acronym.

And also because otherwise people would just assume the extra "c" was a typo.

10990 Madrona Dr North Saanich, British Columbia V8L5R7

High quality income producing property that includes moorage and commercial rental income. Exceptional well maintained marina with two titled lots and a long-term foreshore lease. Extensive (high quality) renovations have made this marina a stand out. The property has an approx. 4,000 sq. ft, commercial building that contains commercial office space and one residential unit. Moorage is approximately 1,610 feet with little to no vacancy over the past several years. Deep Cove Marina N. Saanich is minutes away from the Victoria International Airport, BC Ferries (Swartz Bay), Sidney and only 34km to Victoria. Moorage space on Vancouver Island is in high demand and space is very limited making this a secure long term investment.

Wondering why this is in the Oak Bay Marina thread. It’s not an OBMG marina.

I didn’t want to start a new “Marina” or marinas for sale thread. I felt most marina fans or prospective marina buyers would be OK coming to this thread.

Five more years to explore options in Oak Bay for Turkey Head

Renewed lease agreed to in July allows for fulsome exploration of longer-term approaches to the site

https://www.vicnews....or-turkey-head/

In 2020, the district issued a request for proposals for a new 30-year lease at 1327 Beach Dr. and in early 2021, two proposals labelled Proponent A and Proponent 1 were put to the public for review. The district received more than 600 responses as well as input through emails and at a special committee meeting. Council selected what turned out to be Oak Bay Marine Group and entered negotiations last year. In July both organizations announced an agreement-in-principle on a five-year lease extension for operation of the Oak Bay Marina, saying the five-year extension will provide time for more fulsome exploration of longer-term approaches to the site to create a lasting positive community legacy.

Oak Bay Marina is a prime location for a foot passenger-only ferry. It shaves 1+ hour off the trip going down around the bottom of the island to get to the inner harbour.

If the ferry landed at Steveston or near YVR, it would be a very short trip, and no car traffic in Oak Bay to make neighbours upset.

Are we sure about that?

The savings is only 10% of the trip length to downtown Vancouver. Could it really take an extra hour, at least?

And there would be cars, as there's no way for people to efficiently get to Oak Bay outside of being driven. If you're not being driven, any time savings from departing out of Oak Bay would be lost by having to first bus downtown, then spend an extra 30 minutes busing to Oak Bay from downtown.

I don't think Oak Bay is going to go for the vehicle traffic that would bring.
