I would fully expect that younger people whose intellectual curiosity and critical thinking ability have been stunted by Canadian “education” couldn’t name the major combatants in WWII. However, that the Speaker’s Office, Global Affairs, the PMO and whoever else was charged with vetting parliamentary visitors never perceived who this Ukrainian hero had to have been working for is shocking and disappointing ignorance.

Wasn’t Freeland’s grandfather in the same division? Maybe that’s why she clapped so hard?

Of course not. But we were talking about knowledge of the subject. I doubt she was ignorant. It is a shame that no one had the quick wit and strength of character to hear "fought against the Russians in WW2" and simply not stand up to applaud. I noticed it right away. I thought the MSM was going to try and bury it since they also didn't comment on this right away either.

YES.   For most of the war, Russia was on our side. 

 

 

Any sane individual, before inviting him, would have just taken a bit of time to sort this out.

For most people, it's a complex issue, made all the more complex with Ukraine fighting against the Russians, which became a high-profile social enemy since the 2016 US election.

 

Russia was responsible for so many problems with 'democracy' for nearly a decade, and then they stepped up their invasion of Ukraine. To say someone fought against them would so easily lead to an applause. But history is so much more nuanced and difficult to process than our 90 second news segments designed for soundbites and simple information.

Yup.   Check out what Italy (or part of Italy) did almost two years before the end of the war!

That war was very complex.

 

Europe remains a mess. It's not a nice place, from a social and social cohesion point of view. We are so fortunate to call Canada home.

Of course. But this isn't about nuance. This is about Karma. He demonised people far to much for far less nuance using the "NAZI" attack. It's time to reap what you sew.

I'm sure you can imagine it is traumatic to be called such things when you are simply pushing back against government policy. To simply stand like Novak and say NO to fascist mandates. The inversion was unbearable for some and they fled the country. Some fled because they were literally afraid of being put into camps.
