So the answer is to just allow everyone to have guns?  I'm not so sure.  The ban might be working in other ways.  I don't think these guns are flooding in because we have a ban.  Like I said if gang shootings are up then it's gangs that need to be focused on.  Is there a gang ban?  (easy with the missing a 'g' joke)

I don't have a gun but after coming close to the apocalypse I thought about it. Thing is....Criminals don't obey the law. So gun bans don't affect them as much. Just make the process to get a gun one where you need it to be on record that you own it, maybe need insurance, and that it must be stored and used properly. Like a car. Cars kill a lot of people. Or is the people driving the car? I'm confused.

Gun bans don’t stop gun crime, but the message gun ban supporters push is banning guns stops the gun crimes.

I wasn't really talking about gun crime...  I think other countries with tighter gun law tend to have less gun crime it seems.  Maybe it relates more to gangs...

You just came from the UK with pretty tight gun laws.  I think they have a pretty low homicide rate from gun violence.

Canada has the same rate of guns to people as does Finland.

I think Canada has a good level of gun control at the moment, save for the recent ban on handguns and .22’s that look like “assault rifles” - that makes zero sense.

I like our process of rigorous background checks. Gun ownership should be a privilege, not a right. It should take 3-6 months of due diligence and mandatory safety training to own a firearm. And firearms should be registered by the government. I see no problem with any of that.

Hunting and sport shooting are legitimate pastimes, and we should allow them. It’s obvious that criminals don’t abide by gun laws; so more restrictions won’t stop them.

The current laws we have seem to do a pretty good job of avoiding school shootings and accidental deaths. For example it is extremely illegal to keep a loaded firearm under your pillow or in the closet where a kid can find it. Anyone with a PAL knows this and has agreed to all the current firearm storage and transportation laws.

Yep, maybe not illegal hand guns but sure.  Finns love their guns...  Around 12% have at least 1...

Gun crime at 0.14 per 100,000 vs 36.7 per 100,000...  Not sure what the relevancy here is.  They do not require a ban on guns at this time.  Because they are part of the EU self-loading rifles and pistol are strictly controlled.

I have no problem with people having and owning guns if you are wondering that.  I also don't mind banning of some guns...  I do not think it leads to more gun crime.

I'm really hoping PP repeals the handgun ban. It's a very fun and challenging hobby.

That said, even if I lived in a state with concealed carry, I would not carry a handgun. If you do, you have to be prepared to use it, and prepared to live with the consequences of having used it (ie., there's no such thing as 'shooting them in the leg' in a real world self defense situation).

I have several trophies for small arm(9mm) target shooting as well as semi-automatic and automatic weapons. But for self/house protection I go with a shotgun.

Just hope you also have a shovel. Because in this country you’ll spend more time in prison than whoever broke into your house to terrorize your family.

We explicitly do not have self defence or home protection laws. It’s egregious.

That’s a heck of a stat you reference, against further gun restrictions.

The Liberals have moved to ban hundreds of additional firearms.

But they have yet to ‘buy back’ the guns they banned in 2020. So if they have banned all of these guns because they’re so dangerous, why are they still in the hands of thousands and thousands of gun owners?

The latest ban is an extreme overreach. Banned are just about every model of rifle people like to sport shoot, that aren’t the smallest calibre. There are also special provisions specifically for First Nations, so now there are two public tiers for firearms? I can’t see that surviving a constitutional challenge.

I imagine the Conservatives will turn this over as one of the first orders of business. The Liberals have proven this is pure politics, by banning guns that they then failed to collect despite their touted dangers to society.

Because they are too incompetant to even get the contract set up to one of their consultants.

There is actually a ton of small bore .22LR rimfire rifles on the ban list. So they did ban nearly every model... including the smallest calibre.

They have no intention of starting buyback before election IMO. They want to make the Cons look bad if they rescind the bans or spend a billion on forced buyback.
