Going to assume that’s a propane gas fireplace… can’t imagine what fortis would charge to run a gas line to a private island!

Natural gas, $3. Delivery fee $45,000.

Loads of LP on the gulf islands. Not as good for cooking as nat gas but what can you do? Go electric? Hahaha.

Encompassing a sprawling 29 acres, Norway Island offers ample space for exploration. Most of the island is adorned with coastal Douglas Fir, Arbutus (Madrona), and red cedar, and has a lush and diverse natural environment. The island's developments are situated in the northern part, close toa protected private harbour. Norway Island's many amenities include, a 60-foot protected all-tide dock, a tennis court., an in-ground swimming pool and three existing dwellings. The residences comprise a substantial 5,500-square-foot main residence with six bedrooms and expansive living areas, a charming 1,200-square-foot log home constructed in the late 1990s, and an older caretaker's residence. Ancillary structures include a generator building and chicken coop. The primary residence, built in 1966, and several other structures may require upgrades and repairs, providing an opportunity for a new owner's vision. Norway Island distinguishes itself from many private islands, having hydroelectric power supplied via a submarine power cable from nearby Thetis Island. Additional infrastructure includes five drilled water wells and ample water storage capacity, ensuring sustainability and self-sufficiency. On neighboring islands surrounding Norway, you'll find local beaches, convenience stores, restaurants, and pubs adding to the convenience and enjoyment of island living. The island's proximity to ferry access, marine services, and off-island accommodations further enhances its accessibility and appeal as a unique and idyllic Gulf Islands retreat.

^ The price keeps dropping as more and more of the island sinks below sea level!

Private islands in the Salish Sea, generally speaking, are quite expensive.

However, there is one on the real estate market right now asking about the same price as a West End condo in Vancouver.

Clamshell Islet is listed on Colliers for just $695,000. Its price has been reduced from $845,000; it was originally listed in the summer of 2024. The current price is actually under its assessed value of $725,000.

The little island is located in Salt Spring Island's Long Harbour, less than 30 km west of Metro Vancouver. In fact, anyone who has taken the ferry to Salt Spring Island that stops at Long Harbour has sailed past the property.

I guess when the zombie apocalypse wasn’t happening they didn’t want to spend $2,000 / sqft to finish the house.

I think you'd probably want to very very rich (hire people) or very handy (able to do lots of work yourself) to buy and build on an island.

Fane Island is one of the Southern Gulf Islands' true little gems. Situated in the heart of British Columbia's famous southern Gulf Islands, Fane Island is located in the Navy Channel, just off the east coast of North Pender Island and only a 5 minute boat ride from Hope Bay, which boasts a community dock for easy access. With a high water land area of about 1.9 acres, the island feels much larger due to its gentle topography and the configuration of the man made harbour at its nothern tip with a pretty little sandy beach. The island had a beautiful native ground cover with some old growth trees and open vistas that offer a front row seat for watching seals, orca whales, bald eagles and playful river otters. The island is improved with a one room rustic cottage with propane fridge, rainwater collection, wood stove and a full septic system. There is also an older solar power system installed. The island has a foreshore lease for a private moorage located within the harbour. There is no dock or ramp at present but the foreshore lease permits the installation of a new dock.

Just seems so darned inconvenient compared to owning some other rural or waterfront property.

I got married on Goudge Island, it was very pleasant but all the guests had to go over in former landing craft, the Back and Forth and the Forth and Back. My 95 year old granny had quite the time.

Life's a journey......so roll down the window and enjoy the breeze.
