Canada's Ethan Katzberg wins gold in men's hammer throw
Ethan Katzberg captured the gold medal for Canada in the men's hammer throw at the Paris Olympics on Sunday.
The 22-year-old reigning world champion's winning throw of 84.12 metres was just short of the Olympic record.
None of the other 11 competitors in the event managed to break the 80-metre mark in their remaining attempts.
Big margin of victory!

The defending world champion, Ethan Katzberg of Nanaimo, won gold in the hammer throw at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games Sunday night at a packed Stade de France, destroying the competition with his very first toss, an unbeatable 84.12 metres. That nailed down the gold medal right then and there. No other thrower in the disheartened field could even approach the John Barsby Secondary graduate out of the Nanaimo Track and Field Club.
As much as you can describe somebody who is six-foot-six and 236 pounds as poetry in motion, Katzberg is just that. After a seamless spin in the circle, the hammer seems to just glide out of hands and float through the air.

That's quite impressive considering he was in prison only 2.5 months ago.

I wonder if Djokovic will retire now that he has won at every level?
Go out on top.

What's in the cardboard box?
EDIT:
The Paris Olympics has revealed that the box contains an illustrated poster, with a fantastical architectural representation of the Paris Games.
The image, drawn from a bird’s eye view, showcases athletes in action, cheering crowds, statues, and numerous other architectural elements, including a sign reading “XXXIII Olympiade,” marking the 33rd edition of the Games.
Created by Parisian illustrator Ugo Gattoni, the artwork took over 2,000 hours and five months to complete.
Gattoni had previously drawn “Bicycle”, a gigantic cycle race through the streets of England’s capital, inspired by the London 2012 Olympic Games.

...They could have made the box more colourful.
Perhaps the designer of the Canadian Olympic Team's uniforms could have contributed.

Perhaps I’m being a little unfair, but I’d look at those first two medals through somewhat jaundiced eyes, given the time frame and the country involved….im sure there were no pharmaceuticals involved..

"They were like, 'What are these round metal things?'" she says, adding that she explained to security personnel she is a four-time Olympic medalist.
"They're like, 'OK, you're good.'"
McIntosh was joined at the airport by her mother, Jill, father, Greg, and older sister Brooke. An Air Canada spokesperson says her mother and sister travelled with her on the flight.
While she had been home less than a month ago to see friends, family and her cats, it was in Paris that her whole family was able to reunite.

Canada's Alysha Newman wins bronze in pole vault at Paris Olympics
The Canadian pole vault veteran came in third Wednesday, behind Australia's Nina Kennedy and Katie Moon of the U.S.
Newman cleared 4.85 metres in the event final.
The 30-year-old qualified for her first career Olympic final on Monday, when she cleared 4.55 metres.
Paris 2024 marked Newman's third Olympics. She has battled injuries throughout her career, including an ankle injury that kept her out of this year's world indoor championships.

Should they bring back Summer to be the closing flag-bearers?
Or should they have the hammer-throwers do it?
