Yeah the real issue was not spying per se it was the use of a drone which understandably would set off every alarm bell in the French security apparatus on the literal eve of the games: the "spying" was nothing that 100 other nations haven't done across multiple decades' of games in virtually every sport. Using a drone in 2024 was what the fuss was understandably about.....

'Unaccredited analyst' at centre of Olympic drone scandal is senior Canada Soccer official

The Canada Soccer staffer at the centre of the Olympic Games drone scandal appears to have a more formal, senior role in the organization than what officials previously let on this week, according to online records reviewed by CBC News.

The Canadian Olympic Committee (COC) on Wednesday identified Joseph Lombardi as an "unaccredited analyst with Canada Soccer" who had been removed from the team and was to be "sent home immediately" amid allegations that someone connected to the women's team had twice used a drone to watch and record New Zealand's team while they practised.

The COC said in the same statement it had also removed from the team and sent home Jasmine Mander, an assistant coach to whom Lombardi reported.

French prosecutors said police had on Monday morning arrested a man matching Lombardi's description near the stadium in Saint-Étienne, where New Zealand's team was practising. They found footage of that practice and of an earlier one.

But a COC news release issued on July 1 listed Lombardi as an official member of the women's national team's six-person coaching staff, led by head coach Bev Priestman.

Canada Soccer spokesperson Paulo Senra confirmed on Thursday afternoon that Lombardi remains the director of the federation's Women's Excel program, described on its website as a means for players to progress from youth levels to the national team.

I didn't even know there was an Olympics taking place, to be honest.

I lost interest when they had a guy dressed up as a woman carrying the Olympic flag.

Canada's men's and women's soccer teams have relied on drones and spying for years, sources say

https://www.tsn.ca/s...s-say-1.2153674

Canada women’s soccer drone scandal — that saw its coach get removed Thursday — is far from a one-off instance, and has included the men’s team as well, according to a new damming report published Thursday.

In fact, the operation has been going on for years and included the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, when the women’s team won gold, TSN reported

A number of instances were cited in the lengthy report that quoted two sources with first-hand knowledge of the situation, and they claimed that those who expressed objections to the operation were even pushed out of roles with the programs.

“…according to a new damming report published Thursday.”

Dams are not easy to build. Sometimes you have to look over the shoulders of your competition.

Biggest race of the day. CBC delays it 35 minute on air. Sad.

With every olympics I become less interested in it. Which isn’t the case with sport in general. They’re doing something, maybe everything, wrong.

I suspect the CBC realized they could not do it live for whatever reason, even though they had hyped the time for 24 hours previous online.

So when it went 35 minutes late on TV we already knew the results. So shitty.

I just read the result on X. And then did not watch the CBC feed 35 minutes later. Lame.

Your $1.6B at work.

The CBC's coverage of the Olympics - or lack thereof - is one of the least egregious of their transgressions. How about those "performance bonuses" awarded each year?  :whyme:
