The current government  Privy Council can take actions by Orders in Council  that do not need to be voted on by parliament to be legal actions.

The current suspended parliament does not prevent the government from taking actions through the powers given to the Privy Council and cabinet.

Tony that appears to be correct.
https://en.m.wikiped...gally required.

A declaration of war by Canada is a formal declaration issued by the Government of Canada (the federal Crown-in-Council) indicating that a state of war exists between Canada and another nation. It is an exercise of the royal prerogative on the constitutional advice of the ministers of the Crown in Cabinet and does not require the direct approval of the Parliament of Canada, though such can be sought by the government.

Parliament adjourned on November 14, 1941, and was not scheduled to return until January 21, 1942.[3] However, at the urging of the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom declared war on Finland on December 6, 1941.[17] At the UK's urging, the Canadian Cabinet the next day issued a royal proclamation declaring war on Finland,[17] Hungary, and Romania, three countries that had recently allied themselves with Nazi Germany.[3]

This is interesting.

https://nationalpost...s-what-it-means

In his inaugural address, President Donald Trump said the United States would be a nation that “expands its territory” and referenced the pursuit of “Manifest Destiny into the stars,” vowing to land American astronauts on Mars.

What does it mean?
Simply put, it means that North America comes under the dominion of the United States. This was actually viewed as inevitable by a number of thinkers on both sides of the border.

“There is no sane man who does not admit the inevitability of our merger with the United States,” said Quebec journalist Louis-Antoine Dessaulles in a speech, according to an 1851 collection of lectures.

I have to agree with these Reddit comments. Trudeau opened the door to this threat.

The prime minister gathered his cabinet in a retreat at the Fairmont Chateau Montebello, an hour outside Ottawa in the Outaouais region, to focus solely on the U.S.-Canada relationship and discuss Canada’s response to “potential threats.”

Yeah.

It was either a calculated statement to crack the shell of something that would emerge in 15-30 years, or a major misspeak. Oops.

Not really, its just have government works. Its not that Canada doesn't have a government right now. The issue is that our current government is extremely unpopular, the leader is on his way out, and there is a valid perception that current leadership should not be dealing with the US on trade issues given the lame duck status of Justin Trudeau that the US leaders are actively poking fun of.

It has always been this way. Nothing new recently. A different political party as the government does not change this reality in our system of government.

Time to get over your Covid style governance complaining and let the courts sort it out. If you do not believe in the courts then perhaps you might consider living in a different country.

It hasn't always been that way. We have only been a colony for not even 200 years. And yes, I am fully aware of how our system works. That all it takes is the signature of the King's representative.... This is a problem.

Time to stop pearl clutching when I bring up Covid. It was a big deal.....  I do believe in the rule of law. Our government broke the one law that governs them. The charter.

The monarch is and has been for many years only a figurehead who has no power in our governmental affairs. If Canada decides to end the symbolic link to the crown it can be done.

Without a monarchy the powers available to our government would not change.

If the government is  perceived to be acting contrary to its limitations the courts are there  to decide.

Trudeau, premiers urge shoppers to buy Canadian as country prepares for a trade war

First ministers vow to tackle long-standing internal trade barriers to boost the Canadian economy

https://www.cbc.ca/n...e-war-1.7438587

They will take on those internal trade barriers now eh? That have been up for decades? Why can they come down now and not before? Were they important to have when we had robust US trade?

Our leaders are worthless.
