And that was several years ago...
Yes, but notice how many enthusiastic comments there were below that 2014 article. If people were liking how the program was working in 2014 despite everything they had witnessed and experienced over the prior many years then they should be loving how the program is working now. Because the program is still exactly the same, only much larger.

Aaand they're back! This time they brought a 800 gallon cistern with them!

where does that electrical cable go? it seems to go into trees.
you'd think slopping a coat of paint onto that bare wood would help preserve it a bit. those hinges already look like they are ready to fall off.
our place is only a 19-minute walk to grab a real shower. that leaves every homeless person with 1402 minutes each day for other leisure pursuits.

I would suggest that there is a car battery and a 12 volt pump in the box to move the water from the cistern to the shower head.

Also the community care tent is still growing and looking like a mess.

Why the heck are there cars in the picture. I thought that council had banned them!
Looks like the showers are being used, there is a stream of grey water from the base to the centre of the lot. Nothing that a hazmat crew can't handle though.

If I recall from past years, the area where the care tent is gets very water-logged in the rainy season. I'm sure it will be a sea of mud. Also the road up to the lookout only has a couple of movable orange cones blocking part of the road. I'd love to see a convoy of cars organized to drive up there one day! I mean, who is the city to stop it??

Note - the Friends of Beacon Hill Park were denied intervenor status on the City's previous injunction. So they'll be moving to pursue a lawsuit under the Trust agreement itself in short order. They're still fundraising - and any and all help is appreciated. Unlike the city they can't just tax their way out of a litigation bill. Here's the link. I'm not holding my breath on the end of 24/7 camping in March. Basically if the city wants to start the slow slog to climbing out of this pit of enabling the nation's unhoused they're going to have to come out as hard nosed, by the books, bylaw enforcing crew...if there are rules, and they're enforced, slowly a reputation for not being a mecca of free for all will start to dissipate and we might start to see outmigration.

This. And if city Council is worried about tarnishing their unicorn & rainbows image, they can scapegoat us taxpayers and pin the blame on us. I'm fine with being labeled unfeeling and whatever other label they want to use, as long as we get results.
Edit: for the record I am none of the colonizer, misoginist, anti-puppy and whatever other labels TV/Meegan and their orbit use to silence opposition.

And of course the above story could not get published without including this bit of misinformation:
...The homeless population in Beacon Hill and several other Victoria-area parks has exploded since the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, when many indoor shelters were forced to close or limit their occupancy numbers...
