Seems the media has become really quiet about the couple protesting the MCFD apprehension?

No more criticism from the Green Party?

Nordstrom is set to close both of its stores in downtown San Francisco.

The department store chain said the San Francisco Centre store is slated to close at the end of August and the Market Street Rack store will close up shop after business on July 1. Both stores are located next to each other on Market Street.

"Decisions like this are never easy, and this one has been especially difficult," Jamie Nordstrom, Chief Stores Officer at Nordstrom, said in a statement. "We've spent more than 35 years serving customers in downtown San Francisco, building relationships with them and investing in the local community. But as many of you know, the dynamics of the downtown San Francisco market have changed dramatically over the past several years, impacting customer foot traffic to our stores and our ability to operate successfully."

Unfettered drug use and complete indifference to law enforcement tends to have that affect. Thanks socialists. 👍

I suppose it was inevitable that those things would manifest in San Francisco eventually. No place is immune. Even San Francisco.

no place that made ideologically based (as opposed to science based) decisions... you mean?

like Victoria, SF's decisions dramatically exacerbated a bad situation.

I know addicts can recover, and many people make huge changes, but safe supply plus no other help is an epic fail, and never should have happened.

It’s interesting that the point in time count asks the homeless their sexual orientation, but does not ask them about addictions or substance abuse. And where that is part of a popular answer, they downplay it with a paragraph of commentary:

Oh hold on it is covered layer. 67% have issues. But the report again takes time to downplay it.

When asked about health challenges, 90% of survey respondents identify as having at least one health challenge. Youth (93%), seniors (92%), and veterans (94%) report slightly higher incidences of health challenges than the general survey population.
Well over half of the respondents identify as having a substance use issue (67%) and/or a mental health issue (59%). While it might be assumed that substance use and mental health are causes of homelessness, much of the literature demonstrates that substance use and mental health are often a response to and consequence of homelessness and exacerbated by trauma and loss associated with homelessness (Didenko & Pankratz 2007).

In Canada, approximately 21% of the population (about 6 million people) will experience a substance use disorder or addiction at some point in their lifetime.

According to the Canadian Centre on Substance Use and Addiction, the top addictions in Canada are:

Alcohol
Cannabis
Cocaine
Gambling
Methamphetamine
Opioids & prescription drugs

20% of women are using antidepressants. About twice the rate of men.

Depression and adhd (and more I am sure) have been under diagnosed in females forever, some of them are catching up a bit now.

Men don’t like doctors, hospitals, mental healthcare etc.

F-ing hell, lol, this is among the reasons the CPSC needs to be starved of funds. More ideological apologizing for selfish, bad policy decisions, and utter crap. People regularly lose their homes because they spent the rent money on drugs... not new. If/when stigma, shame, suffering, losing everything, losing friends/spouses, hurting people becomes the bottom, some change and build a life. I know literally hundreds of success tories.

These people must not care they have little credibility outside their echo chamber.

btw... I saw a rumour that Diane Gibson (CPSC) and Dave Thompson are related...? It can't possibly be true...?

BC Housing audit finds 'mismanagement' between CEO and Atira housing

A forensic investigation into BC Housing has found mismanagement related to a conflict of interest between the former CEO of the Crown corporation and his spouse, the CEO of Atira Women's Resource Society.

In findings released Monday, the province says the independent investigation has identified 20 recommendations to improve oversight, prevent future conflicts of interest, and ensure accountability for public funding to be used to provide housing.

"We expect the rules to be followed. There must be strong safeguards in place to preserve the public's trust," said Premier David Eby.

Not enough income for housing

Substance use issue

Conflict with spouse or partner

Landlord/tenant conflict

Conflict with other adult

I suppose it was inevitable that a small segment of the population would eventually have trouble with some of these issues.

Despite a standard policy on the books to mitigate the conflict of interest, when Atira called BC Housing with a request (more accurately, a demand), standard operating policy was: “Make it happen.”

Atira grew steadily over the years to become the largest provider and BC Housing’s number one contractor. Its funding outpaced similar agencies, even as controversies festered about how it handled the money.

The spousal relationship was well known for years and basically shrugged off, on the premise that there was a “screen” to separate Ramsay from all Atira-related decisions. But the audit found at least two dozen cases where he intervened in Atira matters to Atira’s benefit.

___________________

“Atira was direct-awarded contracts without transparent, competitive processes. … BC Housing has continued to advance substantial amounts of funding to Atira without a clear understanding of Atira’s financial status.”

The auditors “observed numerous instances whereby Ramsay engaged in the influence of decisions that were made to benefit Atira. … Atira regularly bypassed traditional communication channels by approaching senior members of BC Housing directly … for funding requests.”

The audit also revealed a striking level of supercilious disdain in the corporation over and above the conflict issue.

Its records of financial dealing with Atira are late or incomplete. “Certain individuals were either unavailable or unwilling to be interviewed.

“Certain information appears to have been deleted and was not available for examination.”
