Here's the first video the guy made. On the radio he said he used to be a Sheriff in Alberta

Love this guy. 🤗
It’s very hard to try and take action as the mob jumps for the jugular if anyone who dares speak up. I’ve been there myself. Well done and thank you!!!

The "no mayor wants a tent city" line may be Lisa Helps' most obvious falsehood since her communications regarding the Elsner debacle.

Perhaps Her Worseship meant to say "no OTHER mayor wants a tent city". This was basically true until Maja Tait took up the mayoral challenge.

My friend was over by the Canadian Tire on Hillside when she encountered a city worker loading up tents a couple of months ago. The worker was not amused.

So in light of the glowing reports from Potts about Eugene, Oregon, I looked it up last night. They have the highest per capita number of homeless in the US. On Reddit someone asked, why are there so many homeless in Eugene? Someone gave a great ,pretty impartial answer. You would have thought they were describing Victoria. I'll have to see if I can find it again, but along the lines of "loads of services, climate, tolerant attitude to panhandling, etc". A whole list of things. I guess this is our future, or the future is already here.

I can understand (although don't agree) with the policy not requiring people to remove their tents on a day to day basis, but what I can't understand is the lack of rules and regulations in place to prevent crime and ensure safety in park environments.  Where is the rule protecting areas near children's play areas?  Where is the rule about behaviour (not threatening park users, public drunkeness, or public drug use)?  Where is the rule about the cleanliness of one's "camp site" and not littering in the park?  Where is the rule around quiet hours in the park?  Why is it just a free for all without any constraints on use of the park to prevent abuse?

True, if it felt like they had any interest in curbing the criminality aspect, then there could at least be a shred of legitimacy to the covid excuse.

Mayor Helps and council are asking Ottawa to fund more hotel purchases for homeless persons.

It would appear as though the province has closed its purse and now the City is stuck with Beacon Hill?

Good gravy.

Hey, how's it going with the fight against homelessness?

Well, the government has been busy acquiring lots of private property.

Okay... but how's it going with the fight against homelessness?

Well, the government has almost completely subverted the premise that Beacon Hill Park is a public park.

Right... but how's it going with the fight against homelessness?

Well, the government is working on ways to acquire more private property.

Gotcha... but how's it going with the fight against homelessness?

--

The main takeaway seems to be, the government is really keen on acquiring lots of private property, even though doing so hasn't helped in the fight against homelessness even one little bit.

On the plus side, we'll never hear another complaint again about supposed "overtourism." Right?

Right?

Good for the NDP to realize they just got played. Trudeau will be more than happy to step in. He doesn’t have a budget to meet. Sky’s the limit. 😤

"What we're doing currently isn't working? The solution is clear: do more of what we're currently doing. Buy more hotels, but put a gun rack in every room, for the ones who have assault rifles."

The Capital Regional District will explore the possibility of using Oak Bay Lodge as temporary housing for people without homes during the COVID-19 outbreak.

CRD directors unanimously approved a motion from Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps on Wednesday that directed staff to work with B.C. Housing and Island Health to investigate options for the 238-bed facility once it becomes vacant.

chances of this happening:  slim.  and none.

Oak Bay Lodge is 80 or 100 metres from Oak Bay High School as the crow flies.

So let's contemplate Lisa Helps thinking that it's somehow appropriate to dump 250 mentally ill, drug addicted miscreants and freeloaders 80 metres from one of the regions largest high schools, a high school that has it's own issues of trying to protect teen aged students from themselves, and their inclination to believe they're "fentanyl proof" and ultimately indestructible.

It's not uncommon for Councillors from all municipalities to routinely overstep their authority when those same Councillors fulfil their duties while serving on the various CRD Boards and Committees they're obliged to serve on, but Helps has really showed her true colours on this one, by her first literally designing and creating the Beacon Hill Park tent city, and then (as Mayor of Victoria serving the CRD) she volunteers a building situated in Oak Bay as the solution to her problem, and as a home for her 250 Beacon Hill Park residents.

It's almost too outrageous to contemplate!!

Helps is indeed many (negative) things, but a loudmouth lacking balls isn't one of them.

In this case, though, the entire board, including Mayor Murdoch, voted in support of Helps’ motion.

But I’m getting the sense that the taxpayer is growing impatient over the following narrative, courtesy of Helps: “We know that people that are sleeping in Beacon Hill Park right now come from across the region, not just from the city of Victoria.“

We know they’re coming from across the province and country. Why are politicians not willing to admit that, or honestly/openly discuss that issue? If the City of Victoria wants federal dollars to deal with the situation, as per their letter, then they need to be honest and transparent about the origin of individuals that are then requiring housing and supports in the BC Capital. But to be honest, they’ll need to admit that individuals are coming from all over the country and not just the CRD’s 13 municipalities which is the preferred talking point.

Because it doesn't suit the narrative they've been preaching for the past decade or more about the high cost of local housing creating homelessness.
