But it does consider itself a world class, must-visit city.

Why does our tourism industry under-sell us so much?

For what we are, we should be seeing two million tourists passing through YYJ every year.

Alaska's winter strategy was to launch new routes for ski & sun destinations. Victoria is neither.

We still get better service overall from Alaska than Kelowna does.

Heck, Alaska doesn't even serve Los Angeles from Vancouver.

You might want to try and interview Paul Nursey, the fearless leader of Destination Victoria, formally known as Toursim Victoria.

I bet he wouldn't give you the time of day, or if he does, will cut you off alot as is full of himself   - - -  personal thoughts only.

Still hoping for a VAA CEO interview Mike.......

We should get better service, being that we're on the doorstep of Seattle.

What sort of a destination are? We don't ever seem to be a part of any sort of destination focus from the airlines.

PCA announced today a new route from YLW Kelowna to YXS, Prince George coming this fall.

Starting to wonder if the YYJ - YXS flight maybe on the chopping block after taking the promised Saab 34 seat aircraft away and reducing to the beech craft 19 seat. Interesting move ahead. One of these new or old routes is not producing and is on the chopping block.

Also Central Mountain Air, CMA also does the same run from YLW to YXS but not 7 days a week.

With the way things are going at YYJ one wonders whether there will be sufficient "flying" traffic in/out to supply travelling bodies to occupy this place.......

Also the two motels that have closed in the Sidney area has left a gap for the older crowd who preferred to stay at the long stay / motel style places close to the ferry and airport.

Yes the Marriott brand is not the affordable motel style, but I have stayed in one and was very impressed with the rooms, food and service.

^ Yes, the new hotel will be focusing on "extended stay" customers, as well as being an overnight convenience.

Was just out at YYJ today for family drop off and noticed a few changes going on.

White Spot had workers inside the restaurant cleaning table top parts but most of the restaurant is still in a disassemble state.

Apron still getting crack sealing treatment in front of gate 3 which takes away one bridge for jets. some of those apron sections are very old by now. Last poured around the mid 2000's

And the area partitioned off behind the gift shop and coffee chop, still hasn't changed after putting a door in the wall which no one seems to know what for. My guess it goes right into the pre board screening area.

Lots of contractors in the terminal building too. Mostly climate control company working the on the AC system again and again.

Alaska Airlines announces major expansion of First Class and Premium seating

https://www.prnewswi...-302199890.html

With much of the US airline industry seeking but not finding profitability, Alaska Air Group reports a second-quarter profit of $220 million as the carrier’s premium offerings set it apart from struggling discounters.

“It’s clear that premium airlines are rising above the rest of the industry,” chief executive Ben Minicucci said on 17 July. ”Alaska’s product and performance put us in that top tier, with a strong long-term outlook to grow and compete.”

The parent company of Seattle-based Alaska Airlines says its profits were down slightly from the $240 million it reported during the second quarter of last year. Alaska’s nearly 16% ajdusted pre-tax margin should “lead the industry” during the period, Minicucci says.

Alaska Air Group reports revenue of $2.9 billion during the three months ending 30 June, increasing 2% from the $2.84 billion it reported last year.

Two dead in Tofino airplane crash

Two people have died and another was rushed to hospital after an airplane crash on the runway at Tofino-Long Beach Airport.

The Tofino RCMP says the crash and resulting fire were reported before 1 p.m. Thursday.

Mounties say the cause is unknown, but it appears a "small 6-seat aircraft may have suffered an engine fire during takeoff."

Baggage piles up at O'Hare Airport as massive outage fouls up United schedule

The airline was seeing carting away travelers' luggage as flights were grounded due to the outage. Screens were put up to block views of the growing pile

I'm glad my flight on United through O'Hare was 3 weeks ago, and not now.

Is this connected to security software CrowdStrike? The CRD just issued a public alert that its system are impacted.

Yes. Crowdstrike pushed a bad update that took down pretty much every Windows computer that has crowdstrike... and its not trivial to fix. Today is a sad day for sysadmins/front line support.
