The plans for the Sandman Signature Hotel at Douglas and Hillside were revised- I do think the new design is an improvement.

Will this replace the existing hotel or be in addition to it?

It’s a replacement.

I'm a little confused here: if this is the Southeast perspective, wouldn't this be looking at the Scott Building?

It would be looking from the southeast, so towards the sushi place from the Scott.

Would this have a big surface parking lot on the north side?

Mike, I could be wrong, but I think that this hotel is intended to be a *new* Sandman (alongside the existing one) and it would require the demolition of the sushi building (the same building with the liquor store)?

Aastra:  I believe underground parking is planned.

Edit:  I took a look at the letter to the city submitted by Northland Properties, and I believe that the plan is to consolidate the two parcels and develop this single hotel with 170 units, restaurants, etc.  It appears, though, that they intend to place it closer to the street (from the rendering)...

Aryze has submitted revised plans for 822 Catherine Street in Vic West.  The main changes consist of additional variation in the metal shingles used as siding and the replacement of glass 'currtain wall' windows with smaller, recessed windows that allow for planters at the bottom.

Casman Properties has applied for a development permit to build an 18-unit, 4-storey condo building at 515/519 Rithet Street.  As this fits within existing zoning guidelines, it does not require a public hearing (it simply requires council's approval of the development permit).

It looks ugly, but serviceable.

Is this not the latest iteration of a project for these properties? It feels like it has been underway for a half decade, with Casman being the latest iteration.

I do think that the previous iteration may have been a purpose-built rental.

And I also think that this is the first time that a formal development permit application has been submitted to the city...

A proposed six-storey rental building near Quadra Village is headed to a public hearing.

A three-storey, 15-unit apartment building at the corner of Kings Road and Fifth Street would be demolished to make way for the new building, which would have 56 units that remain rentals for 60 years or the life of the building, whichever is longer.

I hear the cries of "renoviction" already.

In moving the project to a public hearing, some councillors expressed concerns about displacing current tenants, some of whom have lived in the building for many years.

When completed, there will be homes for approximately 40 more people than the current site offers. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Further densification is good. By taking away reasonably dense housing that provides an increasingly rare form of market-based affordable homes, I'm not so sure.

Increasing due to lack of affordable housing or because being "homeless" has been incentivized in certain jurisdictions?

Are you kidding me lol
