Any chance the CoV will ban this source of plastic?

I know I see a lot of remnants of these on city streets.

What if you are using a drive thru and dinking the pop while you drive?

You better not be doing that when your driving!!!

I guess the response wasn't as overwhelming as the CoV had hoped:

The City of Victoria is hosting a contest for videographers interested in reducing the numbers of single use plastic bags...The contest has been extended to run until June 5, and winners will be announced on June 8...

Look, I know $1000 isn't much these days... but I still don't want my tax dollars going to this.

The "prize" money would be better spent supplying CoV citizens with reusable shopping bags. Better yet, give me the money for taxi vouchers for all the times I am going to have to carry groceries home in soggy paper bags when it rains.

Ali Baba's Pizza letter to council (from Facebook):

My letter to the Mayor and Council asking for clarification on how the new bag bylaw will work.

Good evening Mayor and Council

I am struggling to understand how to implement the new paper bag charge in my business. Ali Baba Pizza has been in business in Victoria for 31 years and I just can’t see how charging a customer for a bag for delivery is going to work.
If a customer orders online thought our website we will have to call them and ask if they want a paper bag to carry their salad and drinks? Then throw out the printed bill, add the charge, reprint and make the order? What if a delivery driver uses 2 bags? Reprint with another charge? So impractical. I just don't see how this will work.

These days many restaurants use Skip the Dishes for delivery. When customers order through the app we will have to pre determine how many bags will be required but then call them and ask them if they want bags?

What if they say no? Will the delivery driver juggle 6 cans of coke to the door?

Please let me know if you have anyone on council that has business experience, especially in the quick service industry and if they can come down and consult me on this. I am truly at a loss.

Thank you in advance for your assistance in implementing your new bylaw.

Kind regards

Mark Murr

Just ignore the stupid bylaw and if it ever goes it court (it won't) just claim undue hardship. He's doing the right initial legwork for that.

Apparently the new green initiative is to have us drive out to Hartland Road to recycle our potato chip bags, lol.

LOL. When I read about this I kept waiting to learn how these new items would get added to our blue bins, but apparently this isn't going to be the case. Burn a bunch of gas to save the planet from chip bags. Brilliant.

What’s this about chip bags?

Know it all.

I didn't even know they were recyclable. Always just threw them in the garbage.

I think this is something new. The less-than-exciting part is that you have to take these items to Hartland yourself since, AFAIK, they are still not accepted as part of the blue box program.

Oh I see I misread it and thought that stuff was allowed in blue boxes before but now has to go to Heartland.

Were they Save On Foods bags?

Joking aside, this is the result of a culture that doesn't care about where their waste ends up.  We don't fall into that category.

Looks like they don't have a proper system for dealing with garbage; probably only in the higher end areas and no system for the slums. No landfills or other solutions. There are plenty of slums in the world that managed to keep somewhat of a handle on the garbage and sewage situation, certainly not in India though.
