From purely an annoyance point of view, the horse and carriages cause much more disruption than the busses.

I don't think either are really an issue, mind you. I like it when Victoria's full of people, and busses, and cars, and motorcycles and bicycles and horse carriages in the summer.

Not Ogden Point per se, but the coast guard chopper was being loaded/serviced earlier this morning.

I prefer the smell of fresh horse manure in the morning, to the aroma of diesel bus on a hot summers day.

To each their own!

Some of those eco friendly buses that burn used cooking oil or whatever it is smell like french fries to me...

Not Ogden Point news per se but I'm really liking the recent appearances of large seafaring vessels docking off Esquimalt Harbour. From what I understand some are destined for ports on the lower mainland (and are awaiting their queue) while others are entering the dock yard.

Always cool to drive up hwy 1 through west van on a nice day. Can be dozens of these ships anchored around Stanley park.

A loaded cargo vessel is docked off Esquimalt Harbour today. I think this is the first time I've seen one awaiting to unload cargo (likely somewhere on the lower Mainland).

20,000 passengers will arrive today on various vessels. This morning two Norwegian Cruise Lines boats are in town, with the second now in the process of docking at Ogden Point.

Huh? 20,000?! How does one possibly get that number of passengers/crew from TWO ships - when ONE ship - even if its biggest ship is one of the two, has max capacity of guests *and* crew of 5,850?! Those would be quite the ships if they each had 10,000 souls on board!!!

My mistake, it's over the next several days that we'll see 20,000 passengers, not on one single day.

The largest capacity ship we'll be seeing here has 3,114 passengers, one of the Royal Caribbean line. I think this will be a big year for local tourism.

This year:

7am arrivals:  24

8am:  13

9am:  18

10am:  3

11am:  1

12noon:  11

1pm:  13

2pm:  0

2:30pm:  18

3pm:  0

4pm:  1

5pm:  1

6pm:  76

7pm:  37

7:30pm:  15

8pm or later:  0

Put another way:

7am to 2:30pm:   101

6pm or later:  128

Now, I hope nobody can tell me with a straight face that the cruise ships don't intentionally delay their arrival until such a time as to give the passengers few options other than an excursion to Butchart, or a quick trip into town.

Remember, every one of the 6pm and 7pm arrivals have come from an Alaska port, and left two days earlier, they could be here 3 hours earlier if they want to be.

You get excellent breakfast on the ship for free.

I can say with almost 100% certainty that no one leaves a cruise ship for onshore breakfast.

Personally, I always take breakfast in my cabin on sea days and head to the main dining room or the cafeteria on shore days (depending on the time of any pre-booked excursions).

I don't think early evening is a bad time to be in town in the summer. Not so much in May or September though.

7 AM is fine if the ship is staying all day, which it likely is, though Sunday's are the worst day for that, for sure, other than whale watching, not much to do for the first couple of hours.

Cruises in the Caribbean have most port arrivals at 7 or 8 am, staying till 4 or 5.

While the food on most ships is great, some people do go eat in ports. Depends on your budget, I guess!
