Practices taking place today with police intersection-blocking, like they do for a motorcade. UVic is obviously an area the torch is coming through.

The convoy of 15 or so traffic cops and a government of Canada bus went past my place today.

I saw a big motorcade practice coming up Cook Street the other day. I assumed it was practice for the upcoming visit of Prince Charles and Camilla but I guess it was practice for the torch relay.

Come to think of it, if I were Charles I'd be peeved the bigger motorcade was for a stick on fire.

Seems a bit excessive. If they spend this much time in very place in the country they will never finish.

Hmmm, looks like Critical Mass is up to something to perhaps disrupt the Torch here in Victoria.

I like to see a flashmob dance the 2010 Olympic Winter Games Theme song but I don't think that would work.

and the RCMP are going - yeah, we know already!! Vic PD have been practicing routes, motorcades, interventions and doing actual investigations for weeks now. How much is this costing. As Jamie Graham has gone public twice in as many weeks over budget issues - is the city police force overstretched? IMHO - YES

I think the IOC should cancel all olympic games until the world economy is better... er.. not quite.

While I think it was the wrong time for BC to host the games (when is there really ever a right time) I still think the game should go on.

I would be upset if the torch relay was interrupted by protestors. The protestors have made their point over and over and getting in the way of the games now will do nothing to stop them. It'll just hurt/upset even more people.

I know that the weather network can't accurately predict two days from now, but it would appear to be solid rain right through...

Would someone please convince me that the torch relay that will go directly in front of my building is NOT a good excuse to treat myself to that new camera lens I have been looking at :P

sebberry - any excuse is good to go out a buy a new lens for your camera! To catch the Olympic Torch Runners you might be best with a 70 to 300, anything over that will require a tripod to get a decent pic.

I was looking at a DA*50-135. Bit short on the tele end tho. The DA*60-250 is too much money. I have a DA50-200 now but the quality pales in comparison to the *50-135. Plus if it does rain, the weathersealed 50-135 would be really nice to have.

Wait!! You're not helping!!! :P

hi, if you read the info on the first link, you will see the group is called Criticaler Mass, which is not the same as Critical Mass. I assume the difference is that one is...er, criticaler?
And also, there is no mention of disrupting the relay on the page. You are making the mistake of assuming that anyone opposing the Olympics and the torch relay want to disrupt it.
I oppose the olympics, and I will be out making my opinions known, but in a lawful manner (unless you include the charter violating sign laws, which we will ignore if enforced here.)
So thanks.

What do you mean by this? There is no law against holding a reasonable sign or displaying one in your window.

There is in any location hosting an Olympic event - Vancouver, Richmond, North and West Van and Whistler. My understanding is that any sort of protest sign against the Olympics - or one that violates Olympic copyright law - on private property, will be removed.

Don't think so. I don't have a problem with cracking down on copyright violators.

Here's an interesting article on the history of the torch relay.

http://www.theglobea...article1336988/

On a related note, the torch parades that the Scouts did when I was a kid were very Hitler Youth.
