So my husband just asked me again what we should do for our anniversary, and I came up with the lame response "go out to dinner". I suggested the Marina or Pagliacci's, since we hadn't been to either for a while, and he replied that with all the restaurants in Victoria, why don't we go somewhere else.

Where should we go?

(A place that's less expensive than the Aerie, and nicer than White Spot, heh.)

He loves Chinese food, doesn't eat a lot of seafood, though. He thinks he likes fancy stuff, but didn't enjoy his meal at Paprika last year. I'm omnivorous, but I don't like ribs.

We need a nice place to go! Suggest away!

Maybe my favourite in Vic for a romantic dinner:

Brasserie "L'école"

...also Camille's if you have never been there...

...both are small places, real nice, not expensive.

anniversary dinner for two

Yeah, those anniversary dinners for three get kinda awkward.

Don't ignore Vista 18 in the Chateau Victoria. It got a decent review in the Times Colonist a while back. It's improved greatly. Of course, the view is spectacular but check the menu online beforehand to make sure there's something you like.

Mrs. West (who loves dining out, and claims she has two birthdays a year to get an extra meal) loves Ferris's Oyster Bar. If that's too casual, try Il Terrazzo.

If you're looking for classy yet light casual dining try Stages in Fernwood. We loved it and had an excellent time. And it had that increasingly rare commodity: good service.

I've never been to Cafe Brio but I think it's worth checking out.

Zambri's is another casual dining place with great food.

I'll vouch for all those too. I have not been upstairs at Ferris' but I hear very good things. Mr. and Mrs. West have good taste.

Stages is a lovely experience, and it is fun to share each tiny plate.

I would recommend Vista 18 as well, but also my #1 fav for a special evening out is the Lure at Ocean Pointe.

One of the nicer hotels on the James Bay waterfront has a nice looking restaurant with a great view of the Inner Harbour. I can't remember which one, though. Never eaten there either, so I can't vouch for the food.

...and well within the 100 mile diet, too!

Mrs. Shore and I always go to Camille's for our anniversary dinners, and mouse, moose or mousse, have always found it excellent.

lol, an "avocado" mouse - that's a "green" mouse? How environmentally correct!

The new Fernwood Inn has quickly become our favourite place. (Former home of the George and Dragon Pub across from Belfry Theatre.) The food is exceptional and the interior much improved. Also, Da Tandoor at Fort/Vancouver is consistently good.

Kentucky Fried Chicken on Hillside - not so much.

Oh and for something unique and kind of funky, the Superior in James Bay is awesome!

I went to Vista 18 recently after to reading about its apparent "turn-around".
The person seating us was rude which set the night off in a bad direction. Our waiter was decent, but the food was still uninspiring. I wouldn't bother going back.

I have to second Stages. Great atmosphere, great service, and the food is fantastic and exciting. Been there twice and can't wait to go back. I love the tapas style menu. Every dish was top quality.

I'll second Brasserie L'ecole. Still the best dining experience in Victoria IMO.

I will also put down La Piola on Quadra next to the Italian Bakery. It is perhaps one of the most underrated spots in the City. Also despite its location, very romantic.

No, no, no. You get those at the Rathskeller.

Saay. I've never been in the Rathskeller. Any good?

Depends how you feel about Central European food. If you like rye bread, goulash, beer, schnitzel, potatoes, sausages, and sauerkraut, it's great. And even better on Friday nights, with live accordion music.
