As a guy who makes his living selling burgers, I have to say that Chucks just nails the concept! I’m sure they are killing it downtown.

Thursday they were full and rotating tables quite effectively.

Walked by the future location of Whistle Buoy Brewing Co. in Market Square yesterday. Looks like they're in the process of installing a lot of the brewing equipment and will have a nice patio spilling onto the lower level of Market Square. The whole area seemed pretty lively, and I have no doubt this will be a big draw. Exactly what market square needs.

I am not a beer drinker but even I agree Market Square could use something like this.

I hope Church's decides to expand its congregation on this side of the water.

This may be old news, but Spice Valley- an East Indian restaurant- has opened at 910 Esquimalt Road. It apparently opened in December.
Also: A high end East Indian restaurant is apparently replacing the former Padella restaurant in Estevan Village/ Oak Bay.

"What's the actual name of fifth floor Bay cafe" would be a great trivia question. Who actually knows this?
The owners of the company, Compass Canada, took over the spot from The Bay in 2011, but did not provide explicit reasons. Black Press reached out to Compass Canada for comment, but did not hear back in time for publication.
The quiet space offers burgers, sandwiches, soup and even a hearty batch of liver and onions with a prime viewpoint of the Inner Harbour.
Many patrons, staff report, are seniors who have come for a main meal every day for 20 years.
The last day in business will be Thursday, May 30.

High end East India restaurant?
I hope so. Victoria has a number of East India restaurants, but I have not found one I would go back to. Though we have not tried Spice Valley.

Cafe Bon Appetit. Didn't know it was a Compass operation, though.

For those who may be unaware Compass Group is heavily involved in contractor roles at VIHA facilities.

If I recall, there used to be patio space in market square years ago for a couple of restaurants. The challenge is that there is no visibility from outside of the square.

That Compass Group is a fascinatingly diverse family of food service companies. Cafe Bon Appetit was unusual in that its guests dined there voluntarily, instead of being their only food option in the oil drilling platform/hospital/university campus/mining operation they were stationed at.
