Dads is being strangled by the parking situation at that mall. I've been going there for years. It is an excellent eatery who no one can get to during the lunch hour because Sabhai Thai customers squeeze every spot in the lot.
I heard recently that Sabhai Thai closed. Is that right?

Is Cinnzeo an existing tenant at Hillside? They have a BP application in with the City for unit 10A (in between Bootlegger and Michael Hill Jewellers) and already appear on the mall's leasing map.

They are not, and I am excited!
Growing up, whenever we went to Vancouver or Nanaimo my dad would always pick up a box of Cinnabons which I think later became Cinnzeos. Even now they are gooey and sugary standard by which I judge all cinnamon buns.

Update on Virtuous Pie - website now says it'll be open tomorrow. Anyone brave enough to try the in-house-made cashew "cheese"?

If it didn't start out as milk it isn't cheese.

Hence the quotes. Vegan foodstuffs are like pronouns these days, everyone's making up new ones, and they all smack of trying too hard. "Mylk" for instance... *shudders*

A cashew spread on a pizza can be delicious. Not as something pretending to be cheese, but just as a great topping unto itself. Works really well with tomato sauce.

Asbestos appears to have been the shutdown culprit: https://www.cheknews...complex-629730/

Leopold's Tavern has posted on facebook they are opening a location in Victoria. It's a small chain of pubs from Regina with locations in Alberta and Manitoba as well. They didn't specify where in town they were going.
They are opening in the old Steamers location on Yates. Be interesting are they are essentially deemed to be a " dive bar", and they will be located almost across the street from El Furniture Warehouse, another "dive bar". Not sure if they did their research , time will tell. Lower Yates is filling up with many drinking establishments. Add Chucks Burger to the mix
BP was finally issued yesterday! File description still references Leopold's Tavern

i have been making a cashew/yeast/turmeric/salt substitute for parmesan for years
disclaimer: i say this as a vegetarian for over fifty years and a vegan for more than fifteen who has never told anyone else what they should and shouldn't eat

The truth behind your cashew cheese. Compare this to a local Vancouver Island cheese and tell me which is more ethical

The Fairtrade cashews mentioned in the article are probably more ethical.

There's some sort of a general grocer coming to the corner of the Belmont Building, between the ice cream place and Tractor. I don't think I've heard of it before, or might have missed it if it was mentioned earlier.
I don't think its a grocer. It has window coverings up with logos of various different brands, which presumably they'll stock. Mostly clothing/accessories brands like Levis and Herschel supply co.
I imagine it's something similar in concept to Drake General Store out of toronto for those that are familiar.
Curious. No unit address given, but there's a BP in progress (ie. received by City but not issued) for "Merchant Quarters General Store," for a change of use from restaurant to retail with specialty food items.
So the BP has been issued and there's a job posting for store manager that gives a little more insight into this business:
"This will be a busy store, selling everything from Birkenstocks to cheese, Free People to RayBans and greeting cards to chocolate! With that comes the challenges of buying, presentation, replenishment, team training, and the operations of a very fluid and dynamic store.
Truly an unique opportunity to treat this store as your own, build a fabulous team culture and development an unbelievable level of guest service."
