I drove by the Original Joe's location in Tuscany Village and it now has Leased signs in the windows. I'm trying to figure out what it will be, has anyone heard anything?

Also coming to the area, specifically to University Heights, are Chipotle, Kinton Ramen, Dave's Hot Chicken, Firehouse Subs, Artigiano (coffee shop), Ono Poke, and Opa!.

Cool!

I walked by today and was wondering the same. Also curious if its taking over the pot shop space or setting up beside it.

All the new options coming to UH is going to be nice!

Beside it, I would think. The pot shop space has always been separate from the Original Joes, as it was a Menchie’s before Burb came in.

But yes I’m excited to finally have some more options in the area!

Rough time to be selling chocolate, we aren’t far from $12 for a few squares of something higher quality.

Prices are going to go bananas again.

This turnkey restaurant space is perfectly situated in the heart of downtown Victoria, offering a vibrant atmosphere and high foot traffic. With a spacious interior accommodating 100+ seats and a Japanese-inspired aesthetic, the restaurant is ready to welcome guests immediately. The establishment boasts a fully updated commercial kitchen, equipped to handle high-volume service and diverse culinary needs. A significant advantage is the existing liquor license, which permits late-night service, catering to the bustling downtown nightlife. The property also benefits from a very reasonable rent and a great landlord, providing a stable and supportive foundation for your business.

Brasserie staff have launched a GFM to help save the restaurant. If we recall, they closed for a short period last year.

That's a bit odd, for sure.

Interesting.

This funding will allow us to stabilize, invest in our restaurant, and ensure that Brasserie L’Ecole remains a pillar of this community for years to come.

On the face of it, I would have thought this was a very profitable restaurant.

Do/did they have a low-menu-price problem, or a high cost problem?

I suppose the secret is balancing both.

Love the place, love the owner, love the staff, love the food, love the memories, love the Roquefort Files, the endive salad, the oysters, the olives, the charcuterie, loved the light touch on the seafood and the cold Belle Vue kriek, the French 75’s, the towels in the washrooms, the service, the whole thing. There is a reason the place is lined up at opening, and it’s not because it’s trendy.

I hope they are able to navigate their current financial problems and get back to what they love to do as soon as possible.

I hear the Airbnb ban is what’s decimating the downtown food industry. I asked someone from Brasserie, too, they said 100% it is.

It's not helping, for sure, especially in that part of town.  Rialto and the Best Western or whatever on Johnson might be the furthest north of the big hotels.

Even if you had 50 units with an average of 1.5 patrons in the darkest days of winter, that would equate to a meaningful spend at nearby restaurants. 75 people dining out that otherwise wouldn’t be there.

And I suspect the real daily impact was much greater.

If this business really needed $100,000 there are enough moneyed people that go there they could have raised a $100k loan I would think.

The fundraiser isn't going great, less than  $6k.  But the average donation is decent.
