I recently traveled across southern Ontario and Quebec visiting many cities and towns both large and small and I think it is fair to say that there is some degree of homelessness in most.
Having said that, I didn't see anywhere close to the degree of lawlessness and saturation that I see in Victoria and Vancouver. I think that the attempts to try and rationalize what is happening here by claiming it is endemic everywhere is at best entirely misleading.

Cabinet yesterday signaled it will extend a soon-to-expire $595 million temporary bailout for newspapers. Press lobbyist Bob Cox, who won subsidies on a promise “you can’t give them forever,” was appointed to a bailout review panel that will now run into 2025: “I don’t like the idea of a long-term subsidy for newspapers that becomes permanent.”

From the Canadian Taxpayers Federation:
Trudeau’s $595-millon mainstream media bailout was supposed to end next April.
But the online investigative journalism service Blacklock’s Reporter dug up information that should make you worry. Blacklock’s Reporter deserves a lot of credit for blowing the whistle on this. It deserves even more credit for refusing to accept even a dime from the government.
“Cabinet yesterday signaled it will extend a soon-to-expire $595 million temporary bailout for newspapers,” Blacklock’s reported. “Press lobbyist Bob Cox, who won subsidies on a promise ‘you can’t give them forever,’ was appointed to a bailout review panel that will now run into 2025.”
A contract extension for the media bailout??
That sure sounds like Trudeau wants to give the mainstream media more tax dollars. You need to make sure that doesn’t happen. You need to act now.
Pascale St-Onge is the federal cabinet minister that would need to approve the bailout and you can tell her what you think. Here’s her email address: pascale.st-onge@parl.gc.ca

Nordstar to put Metroland newspaper group into bankruptcy, more than 70 weekly papers to go digital only
Toronto Star publisher Nordstar Capital LP plans to put its regional newspaper business into bankruptcy on Friday, a move that will see more than 70 weekly papers converted into digital-only platforms and 605 jobs eliminated.
Nordstar-owned Metroland Media Group (MMG) launched a court-supervised restructuring “in response to unsustainable financial losses stemming from the changing preferences of consumers and advertisers,” the company said in a statement. Metroland is also exiting the flyer delivery business. The company said: “We believe this restructuring is essential to MMG’s long-term health and growth.”
Metroland’s bankruptcy means the end of weekly newspapers in many Ontario cities, including Barrie, Dundas, Oakville, Perth and Renfrew. The company is eliminating approximately two thirds of its workforce as it moves to digital platforms.
Approximately a third of the 605 employees losing their jobs work at Metroland’s flyer distribution operations. A third of the cuts are part-time staff. The company said 68 journalists will be laid off. As part of an internal document for employees, receiver Grant Thornton LLP said Metroland will not offer severance or termination pay, due to “insufficient funds.”

Between 2008 and April, 2021, around 448 news operations have shut down in 323 communities, according to the Canadian Media Directors’ Council, an industry association.

Company runs since 1981, Torstar (Toronto Star) is the head company, only 2/3 of the staff are leaving (the other 1/3 stay to run it online) and they can't even pay some severance pay?

The Times Colonist website was offline from about 12:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday because of a major technical outage at Microsoft Azure, which hosts timescolonist.com. Thanks for your patience as systems were restored.
Microsoft servers play a crucial role in hosting timescolonist.com and sister Glacier Media websites.
The technical problem also affected other news websites across Canada.

Here's the funny thing though, when I search to hear about this "major technical outage at Microsoft Azure":
News of this major outage solely appears on the TC website.
Azure does say this though:
https://azure.status...status/history/
And that start time when translated to PST does line up.
