So I guess that money can now go back into general revenue. <_<

Fat chance. It’ll still be paid to all parties.

Port Hardy and Alert Bay councils have bowed out of Canada Day celebrations this year following the discovery of the unmarked graves of 215 children on the grounds of the former Kamloops residential school.

Victoria and Penticton have also decided against staging an official celebration of Canada Day.

View Royal will distribute free red maple tree seed kits and a Canada Day button to residents. The town is also hosting a Canada Day photo contest.

• Saanich has listed 10 activities on its webpage that residents can do on Canada Day. They include going for a hike or picnic in a park, wearing red and white, taking part in a 7 p.m. O Canada singalong outdoors, and flying a Canadian flag.

Canada is a fine place, one to which many people around the world aspire to come and make a life for themselves! ALWAYS ranked amongst the highest in any quality of life survey of world nations. We have built a society where there is much too celebrate - while at the same time we can recognize our failings, as can all nations throughout human history.

I think we are intelligent enough, and bold enough, and human enough to hold multiple thoughts in our head at the same time. We can celebrate and remember, and yes - even mourn,  both our victories and our tragedies without resorting to hyperbole in either case.

I WILL BE WEARING THE RED AND WHITE THIS CANADA DAY!

Raise the bar and attach a hockey stick to your truck, then fly the flag off the hockey stick. Drive around for hours honking to alert the community of your hockey stick and flag.

Know it all.

According to the G&M yesterday, 14% of Canadians hate our country so the odds of triggering a few people by driving around with a Canadian flag are pretty high.

Yes the airing of grievances is a big part of Canada Day.

Sorry just saw the headline and figured it was another G&M tribalism piece.

What do you think? I don’t know the exact meaning of all the symbols so hesitant to put it up.

Doesn't that flag only represent Coast Salish culture?

All this anti-flag and anti Canada Day stuff prompted me to go buy a Canadian flag banner at the dollar store. Wouldn't have done it before.

Think my flags will be safe on the 3rd floor.

And definitely will be wearing my Canadian flag t-shirt that gets pulled out once each year.
