Just install some digital signs, if you really want to provide numbers for incoming vehicles. Indicate if the volume is increasing or decreasing so drivers have a sense of demand and you’re done. The City of Victoria says it hopes to give drivers real-time information for on-street parking and parkade space availability by delivering it right to their smartphone or vehicle.
Currently, the only way for a driver to find out whether a city parkade is full is to look at digital signage at the parkade’s entrance.
The city is exploring ways to eventually provide live, updated information about on-street and parkade spots through an app or in-vehicle smart tech, city spokesman Bill Eisenhauer told CHEK News Thursday.

Aim a webcam at each physical reader. Set up a one page website with updated feed every minute. Like the highway cams.
There, done for $5,000.
That’d be more helpful than arriving downtown and checking your phone while driving.
Know it all.

There is a lot more complexity to this than just use the current counters. They really aren't that accurate as the parkade has many uses. There are spaces for motorcycles, Modo car share, accessible spaces, EV chargers, even small vehicle spots as well as some reserved spaces. Say a parkade is full and 3 motor cycles, 2 EV and a Modo come out, this triggers 6 available spaces in the facility. It's a problem when 6 cars drive in to find those spaces. Some bicycles riding in potential can trigger the loops as well. Like the best counter system will be cameras inside the facility focused on these specialty spaces as well as something that helps count each floor. End of the day the hope is that we keep spaces available at most times with pricing and options a little outside the downtown core. We will come up with something but love the input.

Whatever the app, it needs to be Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible with a simple, easy to read grid of parkades and free spaces.

Designed by Kasian and 5468796 Architecture, the building design allows for conversion of the space into commercial and/or residential uses through considerations that make it unique among parking structures—notably, increasing floor-to-ceiling heights by one and half times that of traditional parkades and the addition of a central atrium that invites natural light through the full height of the building.
