Back-filling and leak checking...

My theory is that this break is the result of the 5 months of blasting at Bayview. In the closeup of the hole in the previous set you can see a lot of solid rock. It's all connected.
My theory is that when they back filled the previous hole they left those loose pieces of rock on top of the cast iron pipe and too many heavy trucks during the bridge construction did the deed.

See how fast city workers can get stuff done when they have to .....

And they already got the freaking lines painted. Other countries they'd just be getting around to shutting off the water by now. I know we complain a lot but we really take things for granted here.

Triple time is rather the motivator. I'll bet you had guys lining up to take that shift today.

They've just re-opened the westbound lane of Esquimalt Road.

And... the east bound lanes are now open as well.

There is a very large water main break on Esquimalt at Tyee (Shell statoin).
Gas is 139.9 at the Shell station

It seems a bit too coincidental that a water main would break there, right after a bunch of roadwork and a new bridge opened up. Will this be another lawsuit?
Good grief, now Public Works is blaming the cold weather.
Cold weather If it gets any colder we are in for a heap of trouble.
“The first isolation ended up shutting off water to some of the neighbours for about an hour until they were able to divert that water around the break,” said the city of Victoria’s Director of Engineering and Public Works, Fraser Work.
“We have old infrastructure, this one is approximately 60 years of age,” said Works.
“[Pipes] do age, and we have plans in process to replace the oldest ones, but when the cold ground temperatures happen some of the older pipes will break.”

there's a hole on my street (grassy area beside a tree) from fixing a pipe with a piece of plywood over top of it for nearly 2 months now from a repair they did.. the previous one they did (other side of the tree) it took them well over a year (think it was over 2yrs) to fix the hole and even then they did a crappy job of it (threw left over concrete in it from another job and didn't even bother cleaning out the debris first so sticks were sticking out of it and some plastic road flag)
on my street there has been atleast 3 repairs needed in the last 10yrs.. one which closed down the school and flooded the playground...
