If it's an EV, isn't that a wash with the bike people?
I don't think it's an EV.

A driver with prior convictions for impaired and dangerous driving is facing new charges after he was caught doing 163 kilometres per hour on Sooke Road.
B.C. Highway Patrol said the man in his 40s driving a newer model Mustang was going more than double the speed limit and overtaking multiple vehicles on the double-lane section of Highway 14 near the Sooke Hills Wilderness Park turnoff in Metchosin on April 27.
The man was arrested for dangerous driving and his vehicle was impounded.
“The manner in which this vehicle was being driven was inherently dangerous,” said Staff Sgt. Adam Tallboy of the B.C. Highway Patrol.

OAK BAY MUNICIPAL WORKER STRUCK AND KILLED IN CRASH
A 52-year-old municipal worker and father of two young children in Oak Bay is dead after he was struck by a vehicle while inspecting a manhole cover on Wednesday morning.
Oak Bay police say the crash occurred around 8 a.m. in the 1700-block of Monterey Avenue.
Two of the worker's colleagues tell CTV News the man was looking down at a manhole cover when a vehicle struck him, throwing him several metres.
"Tragically, the man was pronounced deceased at the scene," said Oak Bay police in a release Wednesday.
The victim had been employed by the municipality for less than a year and was married with young kids, Oak Bay police Chief Mark Fisher said.
Police say the driver of the vehicle, a black SUV, was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators have not yet ruled out a medical emergency or intoxication as factors in the crash, Fisher said.
Witnesses tell CTV News they saw a vehicle speeding down Monterey Avenue and across Oak Bay Avenue, weaving into oncoming lanes and narrowly missing a child on a bicycle, before the collision.
The vehicle eventually struck a tree in a park across from the fire hall, next to Bowker Creek.
Several blocks of Monterey Avenue, between Cranmore Road and Oak Bay Avenue, were expected to remain closed to traffic for several hours as police investigated the scene.

Oak Bay Police Chief Mark Fisher says the driver, a 66-year-old woman and resident of Victoria, was driving at a high rate of speed. The stretch of Monterey Avenue has a speed limit of 30 km/h.
“The male is deceased because of it,” said Fisher.
“On the face of it, it seems very senseless. It’s disturbing, it’s frustrating, and it’s upsetting to, I’m sure, all members of the community.” Officers from Saanich Police are also on scene investigating the collision, Oak Bay Police said in a tweet around 10:40 a.m.
The BC Coroners Service was also on scene when CHEK News arrived.
“This is such a shock,” said Oak Bay Mayor Kevin Murdoch in an interview Wednesday afternoon.
“We’re pretty devastated here to lose one of ours. Our thoughts right now are really with his family and his coworkers and friends,” he added. “He was a fairly new employee with Oak Bay and working in a place…anyone would think would be safe.
“A shocker of a motor vehicle accident, really.”

They say the speed limit is 30, but the road is built for far higher speeds. Do some traffic calming and install some speed bumps before the next person is killed by a reckless driver. This applies to all roads in this region where the sign says one speed but the road design says another.
The street has fire station and police station so limiting the speeds might not be safe(looking at the big picture). It’s the one stretch I actually make sure I’m doing 30km, for a lot of reasons, the big one is it’s in front of a police station. but also lived across the street up until about the age of five
This incident sounds so odd. I’m not sure any infrastructure would’ve protected anyone, but don’t know at this point
too dangerous to put a crosswalk on that turn, but I always thought there should be a crosswalk just before the turn and one just after the park. not that it would’ve helped with this incident

The least they could do is add a painted center line, the road is certainly wide enough. Maybe add some of these bollards that visually narrow the road. And if needed be fire trucks can drive right over them.
it does have a double line on that part, in this photo it looks like it needs repainting

Sounds like this woman had issues, not sure traffic calming is the answer.

File # BCHP Parksville 2023-823
On May 12, 2023, at approximately 9:00pm an officer with BC Highway Patrol – Parksville was conducting speed enforcement on Highway # 1 near Bench Road in Cowichan Bay, BC. The officer was first alerted by the sound of a roaring engine, and then observed a grey Honda motorcycle approaching in the northbound lanes at a high rate of speed. The officer established that the motorcycle was traveling at a speed of 189 km/h in the posted 90km/h zone.
The rider of the motorcycle then proceeded to pull into a nearby service station on their own accord, seemingly unaware of the officer that they had just sped past. Once the motorcycle had been turned off by the rider, the officer took the opportunity to safely approach. The rider, identified as a 19 year old man from Duncan, BC, was in possession of a learner’s motorcycle licence.
Staff Sergeant Adam Tallboy, the acting OIC of BCHP Vancouver Island said, Speaking as a motorcycle rider both in my personal time and while working, I can attest that riding is a great experience. This experience however comes with high levels of vulnerability and responsibility. When riding a motorcycle be extra vigilant, ride responsibly and know that you just don’t have that degree of protection surrounding you that an enclosed motor vehicle would otherwise provide.
The motorcycle was impounded and the rider was charged with excessively speeding under the BC Motor Vehicle Act.
BC Highway Patrol would like to remind motorists that May is High-Risk Driving Awareness month in BC, and police agencies throughout the Province are making our highways safer together by stepping up enforcement of unsafe driving behaviours.
