Somebody stole your cutting board and mallet?

My mom still has a couple cutting boards.  Don't think I even made a mallet.  But I only did the one year.  My brother made a grandfather clock and coffee table that are still in mom's house. Surprisingly, he did not go on to become a woodworker.  Such wasted talent.

Seriously though, I took power mechanics (strip down a lawnmower engine and then put it back together) in 9th grade or so, and I still find that useful today, basis for working on cars.

I literally tried to burn the candle at both ends underneath my desk in chemistry class in HS....  Didn't get the figurative part of 'don't burn the candle at both ends' then, and of course ignored the don't part of the instruction.

A rare side view of the original building before it disappears.

Surreal to see the 1929 building separate from its additions for the first time in years, hard to believe this building will soon be nothing but a dream.

The first Oak Bay High was built in 1915, it was located where the Oak Bay Municipal Hall currently stands.

All of the rare tiles have been removed from the old school to be installed in the new building.

Times Colonist wants your old photos of the school

Oak Bay’s new high school will open this year, and as the community says goodbye to the old building, we asked you to send us photos of your memories of the school.

As the $52.5-million new building nears completion, the old one has been taken apart with an effort to salvage as much as possible, including the unique California-made tiles on parts of the exterior.

If you have photos of Oak Bay High School or Belmont High School you would like to share, email them to features@ timescolonist.com with Oak Bay High or Belmont High in the subject line. - See more at: http://www.timescolo...h.flfeGjMA.dpuf

The metal roof looks pretty new, are they salvaging it?

what i'm missing is what the inside will look like from one of the entrances, like the last two but facing the other way. those bridges look cool.

So 50% of the place will be catering to the arts and 25% to immigration processing?

^ I had a similar first thought. However, those are just the purpose built areas on the first floor. The second floor looks to have all general classrooms - which is where the bulk of the academics would be taught. So cut your percentages in half roughly (the theatre is both floors).

Ok I get ya, so more like 12.5% for immigrant processing. That sounds about right.

I know you're being tongue in cheek.

Maybe that's where you go to vote. I dunno.

Humour aside: Governance classes, political science, social studies could all fall under citizenship.

Glad to see that academics takes up the smallest section of the school.  ;)

I'd have been a lot better off if my high school experience was more tech/trades related and less about social studies/English/Math...
