We were not consulted prior to Salish Sea and Haida Gaia.

Next, renaming the oceans: The Eastern American Ocean and the Western American Ocean. Of course the American Arctic and American Antarctic Oceans. Indian Ocean? How about Amerindian Ocean

^It seems unfairly discriminatory that India should have its own ocean.

But my all-time favourite (indeed, probably THE all-time favourite, taking into account the course of human history) is the effort to refer to the Persian Gulf as the Gulf of Arabia.

Anyway, it's the year 2025 so maybe we've all matured to the point where the only reasonable solution would be to re-designate everything with unpronounceable Vulcan names?

The Victoria City Police Athletic Association (VCPAA) is excited to launch the first-ever EmpowHER Basketball tournament!

This all-girls junior and senior basketball competition is all about inspiring, empowering, and connecting young women through sport. This year, teams from schools across Vancouver Island and the mainland are coming together, building friendships, and celebrating their shared love for basketball.

The event reflects VCPAA’s commitment to creating positive community connections, supporting youth, and building a safer, healthier place for everyone.

Those dang pant side pockets on our police uniforms make the outfits look so frumpy.

On the list of things we really do NOT need to address is having sexy police uniforms.

The mandatory full-body safety suits that all staff are required to wear at VV HQ are hardly any better. Yes, they're bulletproof, fire-resistant, maintain body temperature in either extreme heat or extreme cold, and (duh) radiation-protective, but nobody is ever going to be showing them off at a fashion show.*

*Except for that one time Mike K. put on a special fashion show to show them off... it's the exceptions that prove the rule

I assure you I mentioned it many times to many people. But only when you were out of earshot. It's called polite discretion.

I'm glad my invitation was lost in the mail now.

Polite discretion and certain invitations getting "lost in the mail" might not be unrelated, FYI.

(Also FYI: at first I typed "police discretion" by mistake. This discussion of the pockets on VicPD uniforms has obviously got me rattled. Although that's probably not unexpected whenever the subject matter is so gravely pertinent.)

Anyhoooooo…

The RCMP uniforms look nice. No baggy pants allowed.*

*Except for the baggy pants when they’re allowed.

The irony of Mike K. of all people complaining about baggy pants...

Education Minister Lisa Beare made good on her warning to members of the Greater Victoria School Board and dismissed them at a news conference Thursday morning.

She said the board has had “multiple opportunities” to meet the needs of the community “and this board has not delivered.”

“It has become clear to me that the board has lost the trust of many to govern in the public interest,” Beare said. “The board has refused to work together with local First Nations, police and other key stakeholders to prioritize student safety.”

The move follows an ongoing dispute over the board’s cancellation of the school police liaison program in the district.

Beare noted that the district has seen an “alarming increase” in gang activity in schools and area police chiefs have been raising concerns.

Beare was completely within her rights to fire the School Board, as she did.

One of the huge issues with a woke agenda is the belief that it trumps all else, including following specific directives from your elected superiors.

The firing was for blatant insubordination, nothing more.

Teachers blame it on Trump and Musk.

Greater Victoria Teachers’ Association president Carolyn Howe called Beare’s decision “extremely disappointing.”

“I think it’s important to recognize that we’re in extremely volatile political times internationally, and protecting the processes of democracy here at home is extremely important, ” she said. “The board was exercising its rightful authority under the School Act in this process.”

Howe said that a democratically elected school board “should not be dismissed in this manner.”
