Quoting Saanich's press release is far from convincing.

Yeah they're probably going to secretly build bike lanes without telling anyone while the road is closed.

I drive the northern part of Shelbourne quite regularly. It's fine.

The "Vancouver Street-ing" of Shelbourne is a tragic mess.

https://www.saanich.... 2017 small.pdf

Buffered bike lanes with 2 lanes and centre turn lane: These segments reallocate space within existing curbs to add a buffered bike lane on both sides of the road. Four travel lanes are converted to two travel lanes and a centre turn lane. A pedestrian/cyclist signal is added at Torquay Drive and Blair Avenue is upgraded to a full signal. This is planned for the segment from Christmas Avenue to Garnet Road and north of McKenzie Avenue to Torquay Drive

Buffered bike lanes with 4 vehicle travel lanes: This segment adds buffered bike lanes but retains four travel lanes near the intersection of McKenzie Avenue and Shelbourne Street. Pedestrian improvements are made at the intersection to shorten crossing distances and increase separation of sidewalks from traffic. This is planned for the segment from Garnet Road to North of McKenzie Avenue

Raised cycle track with 4 vehicle travel lanes: This segment adds a new raised cycle track, maintains existing sidewalks, and retains four travel lanes. Changes are made at the intersection of Cedar Hill Cross Road and Shelbourne Street to shorten crossing distances, improve transit waiting areas, and increase the size of sidewalk areas. This is planned for the segment from Pear Street to Christmas Avenue

Separated cycle track with 4 vehicle travel lanes: This segment includes a new cycle track that is physically separated from traffic, an upgraded sidewalk on both sides of the street, and a new pedestrian/cyclist signal at Knight Avenue. Four travel lanes are maintained in this section. This is planned for the segment from North Dairy Road to Pear Street

This isn't anywhere near the same as Vancouver Street. They're widening the street to maintain 4 vehicle travel lanes. They aren't creating any one ways like Vancouver street. Tragic for who? The trees they already removed?

It's not being anti bike infrastructure, it's being anti the promises the infrastructure is glued to.

Just say you want to make cycling safer. Don't attach the climate-changing tethers to it. None of them mean anything, nothing changes. It's just safer infrastructure for bikes. Call it that, and we're good. But don't sell it as something it isn't.*

A section of Shelbourne Street will close starting June 12 for up to four weeks as part of ongoing improvements on the busy corridor.

While the road closure between Donnelly Avenue and Pear Street will be in effect 24 hours a day, seven days a week, pedestrians and cyclists will have full access, the District of Saanich said in a statement. Cars will also be able to access businesses in the affected area, it said.

The businesses there are going to be impacted greatly. Luckily it’s just for a month. When entire streets close for stuff like LRT construction or tunnel digging the effects can be devastating. The municipality really ought to be finding ways to assist the businesses, I mean if Central Saanich can afford to tell a planner to go away and pay him $300,000 to do so.

Shelbourne closure extended at least two weeks

Area around Pear will continue to be closed until about July 21 while the contractor deals with underground issues including the culvert that carries Bowker Creek

After some years of construction (which is still ongoing) what do we have? A selection of large six-floor apartment blocks all with the visual attraction of the Berlin Wall, built close together over every square millimetre of the sites with zero setback from the roads and no trace of green space. The “added vibrancy” is nowhere to be seen. Although this situation is bad, the future looks worse as the council enthusiastically endorses the idea of filling the remaining area with 18-floor apartment towers.

It is totally different from the approved 1997 concept and is a textbook example of how not to develop a suburban area in the 21st century.

Ya, there is nothing planned over 6 floors.

The TC should not print letters that have obvious, wide exaggerations in them.

Street parking along Shelbourne Street between Hillside Avenue and Haultain Street could soon be eliminated as the City of Victoria introduces cycling lanes on that stretch to connect with bike lanes in the works in neighbouring Saanich.

Victoria council voted unanimously Thursday to direct staff to look into establishing the new bike lanes, which would connect to existing bike lanes that run between Hillside Avenue and North Dairy Road.

Those, in turn, would connect to new protected bike lanes being established by Saanich in its extensive restructuring of Shelbourne Street.

Coun. Dave Thompson brought forward the motion, noting Saanich is building its all-ages-and-abilities bike network from PKOLS Mount Douglas down Shelbourne all the way to the Victoria border at North Dairy.

“There will be a gap at that point and it’ll be on us, not on Saanich,” he said. “When Saanich is done, we want to be ready to connect.”

Saanich hopes to have the $23-million second phase of its Shelbourne Street upgrade project completed this fall.

I actually wonder what the politicians would say if you asked them where the cars currently parked there will now go.

The correct answer is side streets. But I bet politicians would come up with something different for an answer.

Why do the masses keep electing such idiots? I suppose they like to see one of their own in office.

Saanich side of Shelbourne is very similar and I can't recall parking along that route.  It's always been two lanes I believe...

I think that’s accurate. But on this part of Shelbourne, many do park. They will need to go elsewhere.
