I think that’s accurate. But on this part of Shelbourne, many do park. They will need to go elsewhere.

I always find it weird driving all the way down Shelbourne and going through this section which is the only part where residents park. Any resident there with a lick of sense saw this coming a long time ago.

If most residents of the CoV had any lick of sense we wouldn't have the local government that is approving this.

Should car owners expect the COV taxpayers to provide parking out side their homes?

If they have for the past 50+ years, then yes, they might not expect a change.

It'll all work out.

As a taxpayer, at least street parking adjacent to my home is something tangible. I am not sure I see much else for the annual pound of flesh extracted from me by the CoV.

And this bike lane along Shelburne Street has been in the OCP for quite a while.

Drove down from Hillside mall to Cedar Hill X rd yesterday with the kidlin.....geez its like driving a battered broken down WWII tank missing one tread down there. There are potholes big enough to have their own postal codes and side roads blocked off and semi-blocked off all along that corridor. It literally looks and feels like a war zone, can't be great either for residents or the smaller businesses fronting directly onto Shelbourne.

Enjoy the war zone, because it's better than the 2 lane cow path that will be left once Saanich's "improvements" are completed along Shelbourne.

Mike K. probably wouldn't notice. The tanks he drives are very well maintained.

Saanich woman fighting land expropriation for Shelbourne roadworks

Take the money and buy a new mature tree. Or a screen, or whatever.

Tree that shields home from lights at centre of Saanich land dispute

Adrianne Wicks wants the district to ensure work on the Shelbourne improvement project doesn’t end up killing the tree, which she says is essential to her daughter

Nobody can figure this out?

What about those extended light covers, to minimize side views?

screenshot-www.google.com-2024.06.17-09_33_38.png

Or a new mature tree.  Or a screen on the house, blocking or blunting the north view from the window.  Or maybe the child can be taught to handle the light?  Savannah is 21, after all.

In an emotional address to Saanich council Monday night, Savannah, 21, said she has autism and a seizure disorder and doesn’t want to be forced to move. “My home and neighbourhood are safe places for me because I know the area well. I know how to access the bus in my neighbourhood.”

Saanich to kick off 11-month study to update Shelbourne Valley plan

In the first plan, building height and land-use changes were contemplated only in the first block on either side of Shelbourne, but that’s expected to expand

https://www.timescol...ey-plan-9587221

The study area will include properties 500 metres on either side of Shelbourne, between Torquay Drive and North Dairy Road.

In the first plan, building height and land-use changes were contemplated only in the first block on either side of Shelbourne, but this time, it will expand to consider increasing building heights and density in areas close to transit stops on Shelbourne.

That means looking at apartment buildings and other forms of multi-family housing as far west as Cedar Hill Road and as far east as Richmond Road and Larchwood Drive.

That’s pretty ambitious.   Larchwood is actually an over-sized street (65 feet wide) for its traffic, not sure if at one time time planners thought it might rival Shelbourne.  While both Richmond (65 feet near its start at Cedar Hill X Rd.) and Cedar Hill Road (65 feet behind University Heights) carry more traffic than they originally bargained for.  Beckwith Avenue and Reynolds Road are other over-sized Saanich streets, both 65 feet wide.

Phase 3 (Pear to Garnet) of the Shelbourne construction is just getting underway.

I must say I completely misunderstood the “20 to 30 years” comment by the municipal planners.

The last plan was for 20 to 30 years, but the new information says they must update that dated 2017 plan.

It’s about keeping the plan relevant, said Mayor Dean Murdock, noting the original plan was adopted by the district in 2017.

I am assuming that the next plan will simply be updating zoning on each side of Shelbourne and not ripping up the latest completed roadwork.  If I am wrong Saanich should just amalgamate with Victoria as they have identical planning departments.

500m to either side is certainly something (crazy).

A Victoria section of Shelbourne Street has reopened after a two-month closure that added to traffic snafus as the busy corridor — which stretches through both Victoria and Saanich — undergoes extensive improvements.

The closure of Shelbourne from Hillside Avenue to north of Bay Street began in early August while work was underway to replace traffic-signal poles and add better lighting.

The city used the opportunity to install protected bike lanes on Shelbourne from Haultain Street to North Dairy Road, add fresh road paint, do sidewalk maintenance, trim trees and service underground utilities.

Concrete curbs will be installed later this year along the bike lanes, which will connect with protected lanes under construction in Saanich, closing a gap in the region’s north-south cycling route.

Ross Kenny, Victoria’s assistant director of transportation, said the two-month closure allowed the city to “accomplish significantly more work in a shorter time while keeping workers safe.”

“We’re very grateful to folks for their patience while we took necessary steps to make the road smoother and safer for everyone, and we ask all road users to continue respecting signs and crews while work continues.”

Drove down Shelbourne for the first time in a long time yesterday. Quite impressed actually.

Sidewalks, bike lanes and grass strip on each side of a 4 lane street.

Nice!

Thank you for the photos!

How long does the four-lane extend? Is it from McKenzie to Hillside? And the whole stretch is drivable now?

Also, it’s a busier street in that photo than Blanshard in dkuitu’s photo!

Know it all.
