Looking good!

It’s looking great... until they peel off the protective wrap on the wall panels! On the concrete end walls they have some test paint on that will match exactly the panel colour - as the render suggests it’s the ugliest shade of rust orange that mankind has created to date. Even pure rust would be better, heck even tangerine orange. This will be an eyesore... shame because it’s looking great otherwise. Still puzzled why anyone would spend tens of millions on this project then try to make it as ugly as possible, at least in terms of colour.

Also not a fan of these composite panel wall systems, they look cheap compared to painted concrete, and at ground level I can see them taking a beating in terms of intentional damage, dents, scratches, etc. (Especially thinking of Yellow on Yates)

Otherwise this project really noticeably fills a hole that existed downtown, extends the visual interest up to Cook and is noticeable from so many viewpoints. Just a shame it’ll be that terrible colour.

So we haven't actually seen the panels themselves? Methinks that flavour-of-the-month rusting esthetic wouldn't make any sense on View Street in Harris Green. I was hoping for some glossy colour but nothing too outrageous. A darker orange.

That first pic in the PDF looks pretty sharp all the same. I like all of the terraces and balconies. There's nothing ordinary about this place.

^Basically replicating the same loft style that proved popular at Mosaic, Reef, Jigsaw etc.

 

In fact, the halogen lighting fixtures in this rendering look identical to ones they've used previously.

No panels revealed yet - but i really think it'll be a faded orange rust.  Here's the pic I took this afternoon:

 

 

I walked by Escher and realized that also was a lighter orange, less rust though, and actually not solid but a slight wood grain effect.  So maybe this won't be as tragic as I fear, although a darker or brighter orange would be preferable.  Escher works ok because of the contrast with the black and white.

Whenever I wonder if I'm doing too much fretting about such "make or break" aspects of a project I remind myself that zoomer is probably fretting more.

^I like that colour. Might not work in Old Town but as I've said before, Harris Green should be wacky town, no holds barred.

 

There are so many cool new architectural cladding elements coming out now it's a shame it seems we're only using the same old boring ones.

I don’t mind the Honolulu cladding, it’s more glossy and vibrant.. heck even funky as Rob would say. Jukebox cladding is boring, ugly and unfortunate. But hey, maybe it’ll look good in real life once revealed -Jukebox has pleasantly surprised me so far even after seeing the ugly renders.

It's a shame they chose to use concrete blocks for infill on the west facade. Even paint won't make these look good. Hopefully it won't be too many years before the proposed Vancouver Street tower hides this part of the Jukebox.

I was told Jan Zak intended the two buildings to be a matched set, so maybe some other element will be added like climbing plants. He puts a lot of thought into this eg: JigsawMosaic interface. And by matched set I mean they complement each other, not that they look in any way similar.

I think the proposed oval shape of the Vancouver Street tower makes the perfect complement to the Jukebox. I'd go as far to say (based on the renderings available to date) that the 2 buildings "need" each other to feel fully complete.
