...if Saanich ignores this, the bylaw becomes unenforceable...

I was not suggesting that Saanich should ignore the bylaw. I was suggesting that VV-ers could show a bit more compassion in how they comment on the situation.

That's the thing, it's complaint driven. Do I think the guy that ratted on the jam lady is a hero? No. As long as the operation was low-key and wasn't causing problems people should mind their own business.

Look, if Saanich ignores this, the bylaw becomes unenforceable.

Oh yeah because greater Victoria is known for its strict adherence to bylaw enforcement.. as long as a tent isn't involved

I have a hunch that Saanich, as a municipality, is more zealous in bylaw enforcement than Victoria is.  They certainly seem to enforce speed limits more than Victoria does (though, to be fair, the CoV doesn't have any highway within city limits).

There are some municipalities in Greater Victoria* that quash public tenting pretty fast I hear.

I think they are enforcing the rules in preparation for cannabis edibles.

Just imagine if people start selling edibles from road side stands.

I guess if you have an edibles store you're not engaging in a 'joint' operation...?

Any sense of where they will be located within the mall?  I wonder if they will be taking over the former Bombay and Payless spaces...

The only BP tenant improvements issued are for Oshkosh. I don't remember if they already existed in Hillside or if this is a new location...

Anyways, yet to be seen where the hobby store will land.

Is it possible to move into a mall without a building permit if the renovations are minor?

Technically, no. In practice, yes.

I thought that they were just going to use a kiosk.

I heard the were looking at the Payless spot. There was even a deal for the fixtures in the works but lease wasn’t finalized.

I think it can happen. If the space is just being redecorated and partitions, plumbing, and electrical are not being relocated, a building permit should not be required. The mall itself already has an occupancy permit.

I relocated a business into an entire building without the need for a building permit. Saanich was surprised when I applied for a signage permit for a non lit small plastic sign. They said most people would have just popped a couple of screws in it and called it a day. The business licence didn’t require anything other than change of address.

Buddy is a supervisor for the remodel of the Uptown Walmart. While he was not able to confirm the location of, there will be another Walmart in Victoria. 🤔

I’ve heard that a local retailer will be consolidating its existing locations and moving into the former Staples store on Fort St, intending (I think) to open in the next few months...
